Cozy Games Wish List

What's cozy gaming? It's just that - gaming that provides a cozy atmosphere; relaxing, comforting, not stressful. After learning about this newer gaming genre, I realized cozy gaming has always been what I've been interested in and played. Probably one of the most popular cozy games? The Animal Crossing series, and well, I've put in hundreds of hours into Animal Crossing New Horizons and New Leaf. I've explored this genre with Stardew Valley, My Time at Portia, Disney Dreamlight Valley and Story of Seasons as well. I love these cozy farming-type games.

In September, two new cozy games are being released and they have topped my wish list!

Halloween Books for Toddlers

Emma is obsessed with books. We started a library for her before she was even born and we've added a ton of books since. Within her collection of books, we've acquired some seasonal books. One of her absolute favourites is a Halloween flip book - Halloween is Here! So I thought it might be great to share some book recommendations in case other parents are looking for some non-candy Halloween gift ideas.

New Mom Must-Haves

It's been just over 9 months since Emma entered this world. It's been crazy. So many ups and downs. But I wouldn't trade this experience in for anything. She's amazing. It's definitely a learning experience and I wouldn't have gotten through the last 9 months without the support I've had. My family and friends have been welcome resources to help me in this new chapter of my life.

Emma has been a great baby - she sleeps well, she eats well, she's overall content and happy. We haven't experienced many problems. But that doesn't mean every day has been easy. Some days I don't get the chance to shower between Emma, chores, and just trying to eat; other days, naps are on schedule, feedings run smooth, and I have the opportunity to not only shower, but write up a blog post or bake cookies.

Since it's the time of year when people are out buying gifts, I thought I'd share the top must-haves I've needed over the last 9 months. They would be perfect for the new mom or mom-to-be in your life:

1. Olehenriksen Truth On the Glow Cleansing Cloths - I bought a small pack of these for my hospital bag. I knew the brand had a good reputation but the real reason I bought them was because they contain jojoba oil, which is incredibly moisturizing and gentle on your skin. I fell in love with them! First of all, they were so refreshing to have in the hospital with me but now they've become my go-to cleansing cloth when I can't fit in a shower or to wake up my tired face in the morning. Also, they smell like orange creamsicles.

Source

2. Batiste Dry Shampoo - Once again, another item to help me get through a shower-less day! I knew the joke of moms living off dry shampoo but I didn't really understand how real it was. Some days naps line up perfectly for me to hop in the shower. But then other days her nap time is filled with cooking, cleaning, napping (I need them too!), sewing, baking, etc. And my hair... sometimes even when I have time to shower, I don't want to wash my hair because I don't have time to deal with styling it. Bed head works better for me. So that's where dry shampoo comes in. I've tried numerous brands but I either hate the smell or it doesn't blend well. Batiste doesn't make me gag from the smell and I can brush it through my hair easily. Success!

Source

3. Leggings - Since having Emma, I've worn jeans less than a handful of times. It's great! Leggings have been my go-to outfit staple. They're comfy, stretchy, can be dressed up, or worn with an oversized t-shirt. Plus, they worked with my changing body after giving birth. Stocking up on comfy leggings when you're a new mom is a must!

4. Water bottle - I cannot stress enough how much water you should drink right after having a baby, and then keep on drinking! It's so easy to switch to drinking more coffee than water. I do this at least once a week, then I feel gross - headache, upset tummy, jittery. A friend told me to have a water bottle on me at all times. Find a cute water bottle that you like, keep the bottle filled up and bring it with you everywhere! I try to do this. It's too easy to just consume caffeinated drinks.

5. Healthy, ready-to-eat food - Greek yogurt, lots of fruit, pre-cut veggies, trail mix, and high-fibre and/or protein granola bars have been a huge help. These items are helpful right from day 1 of having a new baby! Having these items on hand when Emma was having a bad day or a clingy day was helpful. There were days where I'd forget to eat or couldn't put Emma down, so being able to grab a granola bar and yogurt was life-saving. To this day, there's still times when I can't get away to make a proper meal for myself; when Emma's having a meltdown, diaper explosion or we're too busy between swimming lessons, laundry, bath time, and other bedtime routines. Having healthier snacks to grab and go are key!

Source

These are my new mom must-haves and I'm sure I'll come across more as we head towards Emma's first birthday. If you're looking to make up a gift bag for a friend expecting or when visiting someone after they've had a baby, a little Mom-wellness gift is a great idea!

Sunshine Wish List

Spring has finally shown up. The days are warm and the sun is shining. I've been going for multiple walks each week with Emma. Having a routine for my walks has been key to going out more. I load up the stroller with Emma, a water bottle, and my cell phone. Then we head out to walk around the neighbourhood. We have a certain route we take and we always hit up the mailbox half way through our walk. It's been great to soak in the sunshine and feel the fresh air on my skin. After a long winter being very pregnant, and then 6 weeks of being stuck in the house during my c-section recovery, these walks are very therapeutic. I need to move and feel warm, fresh air. It's a bright spot in my day.

I'm excited for summer. I have so many plans for us... hangouts in the yard, walks, picnics at the park, afternoons at the beach. I'm excited for these family days and moments with Emma.

There's a few things I'd love to pick up to get ready for summer.

Clockwise from top right:
Iced Tea Pitcher - I have the personal iced tea press and I love it! I want the pitcher for when we have company over.
Ice Cream Notebook - I love this print and I think this notebook would be great to carry in my bag to write down random thoughts, to-dos, and shopping lists. Mommy brain is real!
Summer Dress - How comfy does this dress look!? And it's super cute. It's so needed for hot days.
S'ip Bottle - I've been trying to drink more water and a stainless steel bottle would be great to keep my water cold during hot days.

What's on your summer wish list?

That Mermaid Life

I'm longing for sunshine, warm days, and not wearing layers of clothing. We're barely getting spring and I freeze at night because I refuse to put my furnace back on. I'm itching to open windows for fresh air and to wear shoes without socks.

More than likely this is pushing me towards my mermaid obsession... I'm wanting to live at the beach, the sun on my skin, and sand under my toes. I want to spend afternoons swimming in the lake and lounging on a beach towel.

Clockwise from top left:
1. Mermaid Hair Tank
2. Mermaid Glass
3. Majestically Awkward Tank
4. Mermaid Blanket
5. Mermaid Pouch

Not only do I have a mermaid theme going, but it seems a teal-theme as well. Come on sunshine! I want spring and summer!

Stationery Wish List

I love notebooks, smooth-writing pens, and stickers. I have a serious addiction to stationery. Now add in the fact that I'm badly wanting sunny and warm weather, and Chapters' new stationery collection is pretty darn perfect for me.

I plan on treating myself to a new notebook and some new pens soon. The rainy weather we've been having has me wanting to surround myself in sunshine items!

All The Colours

Since I'm on a unicorn kick, as well as the fact that we have spring weather finally, I'm obsessed with colours - pastel, bright, tropical. All the colours! I bought a sweater last week and it's coral! This is odd for me since I tend to fall into the grey/blue category with most of my clothing. I will more than likely pair that coral sweater with a grey tank. But it's such a bright, happy colour and I'm excited to wear it.

I've been drawn to colours everywhere. These are a few of my favourite colourful things right now:

1. Tarte's Make Believe in Yourself collection. I want it all.

2. Starbucks' spring cups. They're too cute.

3. Davids Tea Summer Collection. I plan on picking up an iced tea press for myself to have fresh iced tea all summer!

All these colours put me in such a happy mood so I plan on surrounding myself with them.

iZombie

Season 3 of iZombie starts up tomorrow and I'm so excited for it! It's easily one of my favourite shows. I adore the writing, the concept, the jokes, and the characters, especially Liv and Ravi. I've read the comic books that the show is based on. Yes, they change things, but the overall idea is the same: zombies can function like normal humans with a regular dose of brains. Also, the memories and personality traits from the brain will affect the zombie who ingested the brains. That is until the brain has worn off and passed through the body.

Source

If you haven't watched iZombie, or aren't caught up, what are you waiting for?! I won't give away spoilers on how season 2 ended but let's just say that season 3 should start strong as we were left with a crazy ending. And if the poster for season 3 is any indication, I'm pumped to see how things turn out.

To celebrate the return of iZombie, I wanted to share a few of my favourite iZombie merchandise.

Clockwise from top right:
1. Liv Moore Pop! Vinyl
2. iZombie planner stickers (I need these!)
3. Ravi and Liv themed Minifigs print (how cool are these prints? Check out the shop!)
4. Brain pendant necklace

If you're watching the season 3 premiere tomorrow night, enjoy!

Hello Spring

Spring is here! Well, kind of. The weather dropped to -28 last night and we still have snow piles everywhere. I also haven't spotted any grass peeking out. But Spring is here and that means we'll slowly start getting warmer and things will start growing!

I'm ready to ditch the sweaters, heavy socks, and winter coats. So I'm sure I'll be feeling a little chilly over the next couple of weeks while I move into my spring wardrobe, even though it's not warm enough yet.

My fashion and beauty inspiration for spring this year is pretty, romantic, and sensible.

Clockwise from top left:
1. I want all things succulents.
2. I love all the pretty eyelet tanks I'm seeing.
3. Long tanks to wear over leggings have become my go-to outfit when I'm home and I plan on wearing these cute and comfy combos right into spring.
4. I realized last summer that I need sensible, but cute walking shoes. Something that won't look too crazy with a cute dress but will still save my feet from all the walking we do.
5. I just picked up this blush and I'm obsessed with the pretty, sparkly look of it.

Now to wait impatiently for when I can ditch my coat and just wear cardigans outside!

Unicorn Love

I'm not sure who decides what will become trendy each year but I'm not complaining about the trend I've been seeing everywhere lately: unicorns! I feel like I'm a kid again. I rocked unicorns and rainbows as an 80s and 90s kid. I collected the original My Little Ponies and thought rainbows were fantastic thanks to Care Bears.

Michaels Craft Store has been filling my unicorn love with planner stickers and washi tape. But I'm itching for more unicorn things...

Clockwise from top right:
1. Cute Shit Unicorn Pouch
2. Unicorn Snot
3. Fairyland Sticker Kit
4. Unicorn Tote
5. Magical Unicorn Boxed Note Cards

I foresee more unicorn things in my future since it makes my inner child incredibly happy! No wonder I have an obsession with glitter eyeshadow and nail polish.

Pokemon Day

Happy Pokemon Day! The Pokemon franchise turns 21 today which means there are events running this week in celebration. The one that has me excited is the Pokemon Go event. I plan on searching for some festive hat-wearing Pikachus this week, while hunting down Gen 2 Pokemon that were recently added to the game. Because, yes, I am one of the few people still playing the game!

Source

To celebrate Pokemon I wanted to share my wish list for all things Pokemon because of course I need more Pokemon in my life.

Clockwise from top right:
1. Poke Ball Leggings
2. Snorlax Bean Bag Chair
3. Pokemon Tattoo Flash Duffel Bag
4. Pokemon Starters Dress
5. Pokemon As Cats Print

Have a happy #PokemonDay!

All About Love

February is upon us which means it's the month of pink, hearts, and all things love! I tend to gravitate towards heart sprinkles, pink and red clothes, and being extra mushy towards Adam during the month. To get into the spirit of the month, I made a wish list of my favourite heart/pink/love things right now.

Clockwise from top right:
1. Guava Pink Gold Hearts Nordic Mug
2. Oversized Teacup
3. Heart & Dots Mini Pillow
4. Kate Spade Roses bag
5. Coffee Love Tee

I have a few baking plans for this month that involve hearts and some chocolate recipes too. I'll be sure to share the finished pictures!

Staying Productive At Home + My Dream Office

When I was approached by Wayfair to share some tips about how to stay productive at home it got me thinking. How do I stay productive at home? I've been running my Etsy shop, selling at conventions, and working with other websites while also working at a steady job for years and years now. Ten years to be exact. I feel like staying productive at home has just become routine for me; it's my way of life.

Don't get me wrong, there are days when I feel like staying on the couch all day and watching television. Especially on chilly or rainy days, and when a cat has snuggled up with me. But even on those days I feel guilty not being productive at all. So those unproductive days tend to be pushed away by mid-afternoon and I get back to work, no matter how small the task.

Tips to Stay Productive

Here are some of my tips on how I push myself to be productive at home, especially on the hard days:

  • Plan ahead of time.
Usually at the beginning of the week I pull out my planner and start filling in my schedule for that week. Everything from my shifts at work, to when I'll buy groceries, to afternoons set aside for sewing. This way each morning I can look at my planner and see what I have scheduled for that day and can start working towards completing my to-do list.

  • Set small goals.
Once I know what I have in store for that day, I make goals mentally for that day. Something like, 'sew 10 pouches before taking a break' or 'after lunch write 2 blog posts before checking emails'. It seems easy enough, but if you follow through with multiple small goals you'll notice your to-do list will get checked off a lot quicker. Your list won't seem so daunting when broken into smaller segments.

  • Take time for yourself too.
I can easily get caught up at home working on a project and I'll actually forget to eat lunch or I'll stand up to use the bathroom and realize my legs are really sore or I'm light-headed. Make sure you take time for you. Do 5 minutes of stretches when you get up for something. Take regular water and coffee breaks in the kitchen just to break yourself away from your computer screen, desk, or sewing machine. A change of scenery, even for 15 minutes, can do wonders for your brain, eyes, and posture. I usually spend this time petting or playing with my cats which is a good stress reliever.

Dream Office

As for my current office/craft room, things are in shambles right now and not as put together as I'd like. I'm hoping to have a proper set up by the end of 2017! So for now, here's an idea of what I'd love for an office:

All these items can be found in the Wayfair's Office Furniture section.

How cute is that Potted Pen Stand? And I'm surprising myself more and more when I pick white over other colours, but it's become my favourite backdrop for pops of colour through accessories.

What tips do you have for staying productive at home?

Christmas Decor

Let's be honest, I could easily go crazy buying all the Christmas decorations and ornaments that pop up every year in stores. I love the glittery, colourful, classic, pop culture, and adorable Christmas decor that shows up at all my favourite stores. So I have to practice self control and just buy a few things each year. And then allow myself a couple of things on clearance after Christmas. I think Adam's scared that in 10 years every square inch of our house will be decorated for Christmas.

To keep myself under control I've made a Christmas decor wish list that I can look at and admire and hopefully that'll be enough instead of running out to buy them.

Clockwise from top right:
1. Harry Potter ornament
2. Birch LED tree
3. Tent ornament
4. Decorative sisal tree in aqua
5. Buddy the Elf Snow Globe and magnets

Do you decorate a lot for the holidays? What's on your Christmas decor wish list?

Sweater Weather

It's cold and snowy and winter is officially here. To top it off, we've had furnace issues so our house has been extra cold. I'm living in extra thick socks, sweatpants, and giant sweaters. I'm finding every excuse to snuggle under blankets and I'm coaxing Seymore to come snuggle on my lap.

I've been on the lookout for comfy sweaters to add to my wardrobe for the upcoming cold months I have ahead. These are my favourites:

Clockwise from top right:
1. Meowy Catmas from Look Human
2. Cat's All, Folks from ModCloth
3. Shawl-Collar Cardi from Old Navy
4. Merry Xmas Things from Look Human
5. A Cozy Touch Sweater from ModCloth

I hope you're staying warm!

Gilmore Girls

Like a good chunk of the population, I'm so excited for Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life on Netflix. I am also part of the population who has to work the day it comes out - Black Friday. But since I received an opening shift and will be off work mid-afternoon I have plans with my couch, pajamas, and lots of coffee while I watch all of the Gilmore Girls episodes.

The spark of excitement for the new episodes has me wanting to start the entire series from the beginning again which I think I might do after Christmas.

But in the meantime I wanted to share these amazing items that allow you to showcase your love for Gilmore Girls...

Clockwise from top right corner:
1. Coffee, Coffee, Coffee
2. Dragonfly Inn
3. Luke's Diner

Clockwise from top right corner:
1. Dragonfly Inn Poster
2. Lorelai's Winter Wonderland Candle

Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them

Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them is out in theatres today and I'm so excited to go see it! I work all weekend but I'll be heading to the theatre early next week to squeeze in a Fantastic Beasts date. Every trailer released for this movie gives me goosebumps and makes my stomach flip in excitement. I cannot wait to travel back into this magical universe.

In celebration of the movie being released I shared my favourite Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them things, both clothing and books.

The clothing collection at Hot Topic, which is inspired by the movie, are absolutely amazing! The vintage styles are so pretty and I would definitely wear them. I'm also a big fan of some of the other graphic designs for their t-shirts and tanks. And, of course, a Fantastic Beasts wish list wouldn't be complete without books. The original movie screenplay was released today and I plan on picking it up this weekend. I can't wait to devour all of the writing. The colouring book and journal are also fun and you can find them at Indigo Books.

Will you be seeing Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them this weekend?

Halloween Weekend

It's the weekend before Halloween! Time for pumpkins, mini candy bars, and dressing up!

To celebrate this holiday, I put together some of my favourite Halloween things right now:

Clockwise from top left:
1. Spell on Wheels - a new comic book series that just sounds absolutely fantastic. It's described as "Supernatural meets Buffy and The Craft".
2. Dark Night Leggings - I think this pattern from Sweet Legs is gorgeous and would be perfect to wear with a witch costume and then with every dress I own.
3. Haunted Castle Mug - Davids Tea released a great Halloween collection this year and I'm so loving the Haunted Castle mug and travel mug.
4. Current Mood: Halloween Pullover - As usual Look Human has some fun Halloween-inspired designs which are perfect for this time of year. I would definitely wear this sweater throughout October.

What tops your favourite Halloween things now?

Fall Fashion: Look Human

It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of Look Human designs. Their love of cats, wine, cuddles, and coffee have won my heart over.

Now their Feelin Fall Collection has me wanting to add everything to my cart (except for the football things....). These designs top my Look Human wish list:

See? Cats, cuddles, candy, crafting, pumpkins, and leaves! It's me! It's all me! After my next craft show I may have to splurge on a new shirt for the cold months, especially that long sleeve t-shirt. I love the shape of it!

What's your favourite thing about fall?
xo Jen

Fall Style

When looking at the long-term weather forecast I can see fall is definitely here. The temperatures are steadily dropping which means I get to pull out my leggings, boots, and cardigans!

Right now I'm on the lookout for a few wardrobe pieces to freshen up what I already own for the cooler months ahead.

Clockwise from top right corner:
1. Flurry Moc from Airwalk
I already own a pair of these and they're so comfortable and cute. But they're a few years old and don't look so nice anymore.
2. Long Open-Front Cardigan from Old Navy
I love my cardigans and a couple of mine are starting to show their age - small holes and the fabric is balling. I need a couple of new ones, and I'm so in love with the longer styles.
3. Midnight Leggings from Sweetlegs
Have you heard of Sweetlegs? Their leggings are so amazing! They're soft, super stretchy, long, and very high-waisted. If I could live in them for the rest of my life I'd be very happy.
4. Boyfriend Cardigan from Old Navy
As I said above, I love a comfy, longer cardigan!
5. Waisted Swing Dress from Old Navy
Old Navy introduced this style of dress, their swing dress, last year and I've been addicted ever since. I own a couple of their swing dresses and I want more! They're perfect to layer with leggings and boots!

What's on your fall wish list?
