Hello Spring

Spring is here! Well, kind of. The weather dropped to -28 last night and we still have snow piles everywhere. I also haven't spotted any grass peeking out. But Spring is here and that means we'll slowly start getting warmer and things will start growing!

I'm ready to ditch the sweaters, heavy socks, and winter coats. So I'm sure I'll be feeling a little chilly over the next couple of weeks while I move into my spring wardrobe, even though it's not warm enough yet.

My fashion and beauty inspiration for spring this year is pretty, romantic, and sensible.

Clockwise from top left:
1. I want all things succulents.
2. I love all the pretty eyelet tanks I'm seeing.
3. Long tanks to wear over leggings have become my go-to outfit when I'm home and I plan on wearing these cute and comfy combos right into spring.
4. I realized last summer that I need sensible, but cute walking shoes. Something that won't look too crazy with a cute dress but will still save my feet from all the walking we do.
5. I just picked up this blush and I'm obsessed with the pretty, sparkly look of it.

Now to wait impatiently for when I can ditch my coat and just wear cardigans outside!

Fashion Inspiration

Recently I've been spotting flared jeans more and more... it's like my high school days have come back to haunt me. It's funny how fashion trends come in and out of style. I tend to gravitate towards the fashion styles I wore in high school. I'm not entirely sure why. Maybe it's a comfort thing? Either way, I'm happy to see flared jeans again and to give my legs a breather from all the skinny jeans.

Flared Jeans

I picked up a pair of high waist, flared jeans from American Eagle and I'm so in love with them! The downfall though? They're not great in snow since you can't tuck them into boots. But believe me when I say I'll be rocking them come Spring with flats and sneakers.

Cabin Socks

I stole two pairs of Adam's oversized cabin socks years ago. I wear them to bed or around the house during winter. They're huge, thick wool socks that are so comfy. But I can't wear them out of the house because they're too big. So I've invested in a few pairs of ladies cabin socks to wear out of the house. I'm obsessed. Warm, comfy socks have become my weakness. I basically live in them with leggings and my furry winter boots. It's very similar to the look below (but add on a winter coat).

Swing Dresses

I've been addicted to swing dresses since I bought my first one at Old Navy a year or so ago. Since then I keep picking up more whenever Old Navy puts them on sale; different designs, long and short sleeved ones. They're beyond comfy, perfect to pair with leggings and easy to dress up or down. I'm actually nervous for when the style will go out of fashion because where will I buy more? But after checking out the 2017 spring fashion trends, I think they'll be sticking around with styles from the 70s being strong this year.

SweetLegs

My ideal outfit? Leggings, a dress, and boots. Maybe a cardigan if necessary. My goal in life right now is to work somewhere that I can wear my favourite outfit combo daily.

This photo was taken at Gateway FanEx last month.

For my birthday this past summer I was given a pair of leggings from Sweetlegs; one size fits all in a cat print. I loved the print but was nervous about the sizing because I rarely fit into the one size fits all items. Well these leggings are amazing - super stretchy, super long, and ridiculously soft! The sizing is perfect, though, if you're shorter, you have to pull the extra length up to hide around the tops of your legs. But that's ok! It's better than too short!

After falling in love with my cat leggings, I headed to the site to pick up two more pairs. Both of them fit exactly like the cat ones and I'm seriously obsessed. Now when I wear my other brands of leggings, they don't compare. Other leggings sag after one wear (I usually wear leggings 2-3 times before I wash them), slide down my hips and require me to pull them up every once in a while, or I can see the slight wear and thinning that make the leggings somewhat see-through.

But not my leggings from Sweetlegs!

These have become my most worn pair of leggings since they're pretty neutral. I've been pairing them with most of my dresses.

I'm excited to own some holiday-inspired leggings. They're great to pair with an over-sized sweater and tall socks.

I currently have my eye on a few of their new holiday print leggings and I'm wanting to grab a couple of their plain coloured ones too. And the best part? They're a Canadian company so I can feel even better about supporting them.

Sweater Weather

It's cold and snowy and winter is officially here. To top it off, we've had furnace issues so our house has been extra cold. I'm living in extra thick socks, sweatpants, and giant sweaters. I'm finding every excuse to snuggle under blankets and I'm coaxing Seymore to come snuggle on my lap.

I've been on the lookout for comfy sweaters to add to my wardrobe for the upcoming cold months I have ahead. These are my favourites:

Clockwise from top right:
1. Meowy Catmas from Look Human
2. Cat's All, Folks from ModCloth
3. Shawl-Collar Cardi from Old Navy
4. Merry Xmas Things from Look Human
5. A Cozy Touch Sweater from ModCloth

I hope you're staying warm!

Fall Fashion: Look Human

It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of Look Human designs. Their love of cats, wine, cuddles, and coffee have won my heart over.

Now their Feelin Fall Collection has me wanting to add everything to my cart (except for the football things....). These designs top my Look Human wish list:

See? Cats, cuddles, candy, crafting, pumpkins, and leaves! It's me! It's all me! After my next craft show I may have to splurge on a new shirt for the cold months, especially that long sleeve t-shirt. I love the shape of it!

What's your favourite thing about fall?

Fall Style

When looking at the long-term weather forecast I can see fall is definitely here. The temperatures are steadily dropping which means I get to pull out my leggings, boots, and cardigans!

Right now I'm on the lookout for a few wardrobe pieces to freshen up what I already own for the cooler months ahead.

Clockwise from top right corner:
1. Flurry Moc from Airwalk
I already own a pair of these and they're so comfortable and cute. But they're a few years old and don't look so nice anymore.
2. Long Open-Front Cardigan from Old Navy
I love my cardigans and a couple of mine are starting to show their age - small holes and the fabric is balling. I need a couple of new ones, and I'm so in love with the longer styles.
3. Midnight Leggings from Sweetlegs
Have you heard of Sweetlegs? Their leggings are so amazing! They're soft, super stretchy, long, and very high-waisted. If I could live in them for the rest of my life I'd be very happy.
4. Boyfriend Cardigan from Old Navy
As I said above, I love a comfy, longer cardigan!
5. Waisted Swing Dress from Old Navy
Old Navy introduced this style of dress, their swing dress, last year and I've been addicted ever since. I own a couple of their swing dresses and I want more! They're perfect to layer with leggings and boots!

What's on your fall wish list?

Fandom Favourites: Pokemon Go

I highly doubt I have to explain to anyone what Pokemon Go is. If so, just check out this post about the new Pokemon app. Since late Sunday night, when the game was officially released in Canada, I have gone on 4 walks in my neighbourhood to look for Pokemon. This game is seriously going to get me in shape at this rate considering it's only Wednesday.

To share my love for Pokemon and how much fun I'm having playing Pokemon Go, I rounded up my top favourite Pokemon t-shirt designs that have been popping up in my email inbox (thanks to TeeFury, RiptApparel, and TeeTurtle).

Clockwise from top right box:

1. Where's the Gym? by TeeTurtle
2. Certified Trainer by Oktobear
3. Tiny Turtle Trained by Huino
4. Gotta Fit Them All by DoOomcat
5. PikaPooh by Ste7en Lefcourt

Have you been playing Pokemon Go? Are you enjoying it? The servers have been a little unstable this week and my phone has the worst GPS signal apparently since my trainer is constantly running around the map, but overall we're having a fun time catching Pokemon!

Style Inspiration: Kimmy Schmidt

While browsing photos of Ellie Kemper (the actress that plays Kimmy Schmidt) for hair inspiration, I realized just how much I absolutely adore the wardrobe of Kimmy Schmidt.

Her wardrobe is extremely colourful, it's full of prints and patterns, and consists of a lot of skirts, cardigans, and small cross-body bags. It's pretty much my ideal wardrobe.

Fox sweater, cat sweater, heart dress, cute bags, colourful sweaters? Love it!

I've been saving some of her outfit pictures to my Pinterest boards for future outfit inspiration because she seriously knows how to to do colour and fun prints.

Have you watched the second season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt yet? What'd you think?
xo Jen

Style Inspiration: Marissa Cooper

I recently finished re-watching the third season of The O.C. It was a hit TV show during high school and I found myself addicted to the drama pretty quickly. Plus, I loved Seth's geeky side and I couldn't get enough of the soundtrack (I have to thank Seth Cohen for introducing me to Death Cab for Cutie).

Not until I found The O.C. boxsets for dirt cheap did I consider picking them up. Even though I didn't miss an episode when it aired, the show quickly took a nosedive in the third season and I didn't know if I'd ever want to watch it again. Well, I have to say I'm happy I picked up the boxsets. I've enjoyed watching the bromance between Seth and Ryan again and I really am a fan of the Seth/Summer relationship.

Now, Marissa was never my favourite character. And I can say after re-watching the first three seasons, she still doesn't win me over. Unfortunately Mischa Barton wasn't the best actress, and the drama that was written into the show for Marissa was made so much worse by the lack of good acting.

But with that being said, I noticed that Marissa's wardrobe (especially in the later seasons) is my dream wardrobe from that time. I don't think I realized how much fashion from the early 2000's still influenced my outfit choices of today.

I want to wear Keds again, pull out all my long, layering necklaces, and stock up on beach-appropriate sun dresses. And to this day, I still long for Marissa Cooper hair. Long, beach waves have been my ideal hairstyle forever.

So maybe Marissa Cooper influenced me more than I thought...

Have you ever watched The O.C.?

5 Fandom Friday: Favourite Geeky Stores

This week's 5 Fandom Friday is a fun one because I'm constantly looking for geek clothes, accessories, and gadgets!

Let's get to it...

1. TeeFury

I'm sure you've heard of at least one of the many websites that sells geeky t-shirt designs for a 24-hour period and then they disappear (until another site sells the same design at a future date). I've been addicted to these sites for years now and have bought some super awesome geeky mash-up shirts. TeeFury tends to be the site I buy from the most. I'm always squeeing at their designs.

2. Hallmark

A little weird, right? Not anymore! In the last couple of years they've started carrying geeky things - Itty Bittys and housewares (mugs, picture frames, etc.). And they're all SO cute! Their Star Wars merchandise and Itty Bitty line keep me coming back.

3. Teeturtle

Teeturtle is a Canadian company that makes cute geeky designs to print on t-shirts, hoodies, and socks. Their designs are super adorable and I kind of want everything on their site.

4. Look Human

I was introduced to Look Human a couple of years ago through social media. One of my twitter friends would post the cutest Sailor Moon-inspired tanks and I had to know where she got them. Look Human! They have an amazing collection for cat lovers and coffee addicts so the company has won me over. But their fandom designs are what grabbed my attention initially. I also finally got one of their Harry Potter-inspired 'Always' tanks for Christmas this year!

5. EB Games aka GameStop

My husband has a video game addiction and I also dabble in video games myself. This has me visiting an EB Games location almost weekly. I'm pretty sure our local store employees could recognize us anywhere. Slowly they've been bringing more items into the store besides video games.... Pop! Vinyl figures, board games, Nintendo Christmas ornaments, t-shirts, blind boxes. So now the store has become even more appealing to me.

What are you favourite geeky stores? I'm always looking for new places to check out!

Everyday Cosplay: Deadpool

Deadpool comes out on Friday and I'm so incredibly excited to see it. Like many Deadpool fans, we will be seeing the movie as our Valentine's Day date. What better way to celebrate a romantic day but with Deadpool?!

To get ready for the movie I came up with a Deadpool Everyday Cosplay that I'd love to wear! Mixing a cute and sweet dress with tougher accessories is one of my favourite styles.

Finishing off the outfit with lots of black eyeliner and red nails is the perfect touch in my opinion. I will definitely be trying to duplicate this outfit for my date this weekend.

Are you excited for the Deadpool movie?

Fandom Favourites

Hello! I hope your weekend is going great! I'm here to share with you my fandom favourites that I'm loving this week.

1. TeeTurtle just released the cutest Toothless t-shirt design. It makes my heart melt.

2. This Wonder Woman fabric from Camelot fabrics is beautiful! I really want to use this fabric for future projects.

3. Dooney and Bourke released their Star Wars: The Force Awakens bags for Disney and, oh my, I want them all!

4. All the information being released about the Gilmore Girls' revival is making me so excited and nostalgic. Never have I wanted to rewatch Gilmore Girls as much as I do right now.

5. Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens game has been announced and arrives in stores this June. I love the Lego games and since I loved The Force Awakens so much, I cannot wait for this game!

What fandom news are you loving this week?

Coffee Shop Dates

One of my favourite things to do is to try different coffee and bake shops. This is because of a couple of reasons:
  1. I love coffee.
  2. I love pastries and baked goods.
  3. The atmosphere - every single coffee and bake shop I've been to have a wonderful and inviting atmosphere.
  4. It's fun trying something new - new flavours, new menu items.
  5. I like spending money at a local, independent business than the 'big guy' coffee shops.
There are a handful of places that I've visited here that I really, really like. And even though Adam isn't big on coffee, I can usually drag him to one of the local coffee shops with the promise of some sort of sweet treat.

With the cooler weather, I'm finding myself trying to fit in all the coffee shop dates with both Adam and friends. Typically I head out bundled up in Winter clothing and lots of layers but in my ideal world, I'd be dressing in a similar outfit to this (I also really, really need that coffee & donuts tee!):

Do you have a favourite local coffee place? I'm thankful that even though this city is smaller than I'm used to, there is no shortage of good coffee and tasty pastries and baked goods.

Agent Carter

Did you watch the season 2 premiere of Agent Carter? I really enjoyed it. I think the L.A. setting will provide a fresh setting for the show.

Jarvis was fantastic as usual and I just love Peggy's attitude and style. Honestly, she's a huge inspiration in every way. The way she handles situations, doesn't let intimidation affect her, and her passion for her job and justice is incredible. Let's just say I want to be Peggy Carter when I grow up.

I'm really excited to see more of season 2!
xo Jen

Supergirl

Supergirl starts back up tonight and I'm very excited for it. I was hesitant to watch Supergirl this past Fall because I'm not much of a DC Comics person. I don't know much about their universe and their characters (unless they reside in Gotham). I'm so happy I gave the show a chance though.

I watched Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman growing up and Supergirl has a similar feel to that show - a light-hearted drama perfect for the whole family. It gets serious but not too serious, and the comedic parts aren't excessive. Kara Danvers is extremely likeable and so are most of the other characters. Even Kara's boss, Cat Grant (played by the fiery Calista Flockhart), is likeable once she lets some personal information or vulnerable moments slip with Kara.

I never thought I'd end up being a Supergirl fan but the show is changing that. I'm pretty sure I have the items in my wardrobe to pull off an Everyday Cosplay for Supergirl's look. I really love the darker colours for the new suit instead of the bright red and blue. And don't even get me started on Kara's everyday wardrobe... her work day outfits are adorable!

Have you watched Supergirl and if so, what'd you think of it?

My Life In Photos: Star Wars Edition

December was the month of Star Wars for many. The month was filled with Star Wars movies rewatches, new and old merchandise being bought, DIYs and recipes being made - all to get ready for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Our household was no different. We rewatched all six Star Wars movies, I bought and made R2-D2 cookies, and wore all my Star Wars fashions in preparation to seeing the movie. It was fun and exciting waiting for the movie to arrive.

Once we saw the movie, the Star Wars craze didn't stop there. We found ourselves surrounded my Star Wars merchandise at Kool Stuff Toys in Hamilton on Christmas Eve.

I also have an amazing husband who ran out and picked me up this BB-8 Pop! Vinyl last minute because of my new obsession with him after seeing the movie.

I also received two new Christmas ornaments for the tree on Christmas morning. Needless to say, it was a Star Wars Christmas.

Now onto the movie, I'm sure you've read numerous reviews (with and without spoilers), interviews, and theories. So what's my take on the movie? I loved it. It felt like a Star Wars movie. The cast, new and old, were brilliant. I have no complaints. I have about a million questions that haven't been answered, but I know the future movies will answer and explain more. I'd like to say my newest obsession is Rey and BB-8, but Finn and Poe won me over too. They all made me feel so much.

Have you seen the movie yet? Did you enjoy it?
