Gilmore Girls Fall

Are we all rewatching Gilmore Girls again now that fall is here?! I'm halfway through season 1 AGAIN. It's my comfort show and I could honestly have it on constantly. It's crazy that I'm now older that Lorelai when the show started...

If you're not ready to commit to watching the entire series, there are so many episode lists online to watch specific episodes - seasonal, boyfriend eras, etc.

All About Love

February is upon us which means it's the month of pink, hearts, and all things love! I tend to gravitate towards heart sprinkles, pink and red clothes, and being extra mushy towards Adam during the month. To get into the spirit of the month, I made a wish list of my favourite heart/pink/love things right now.

Clockwise from top right:
1. Guava Pink Gold Hearts Nordic Mug
2. Oversized Teacup
3. Heart & Dots Mini Pillow
4. Kate Spade Roses bag
5. Coffee Love Tee

I have a few baking plans for this month that involve hearts and some chocolate recipes too. I'll be sure to share the finished pictures!

Staying Productive At Home + My Dream Office

When I was approached by Wayfair to share some tips about how to stay productive at home it got me thinking. How do I stay productive at home? I've been running my Etsy shop, selling at conventions, and working with other websites while also working at a steady job for years and years now. Ten years to be exact. I feel like staying productive at home has just become routine for me; it's my way of life.

Don't get me wrong, there are days when I feel like staying on the couch all day and watching television. Especially on chilly or rainy days, and when a cat has snuggled up with me. But even on those days I feel guilty not being productive at all. So those unproductive days tend to be pushed away by mid-afternoon and I get back to work, no matter how small the task.

Tips to Stay Productive

Here are some of my tips on how I push myself to be productive at home, especially on the hard days:

  • Plan ahead of time.
Usually at the beginning of the week I pull out my planner and start filling in my schedule for that week. Everything from my shifts at work, to when I'll buy groceries, to afternoons set aside for sewing. This way each morning I can look at my planner and see what I have scheduled for that day and can start working towards completing my to-do list.

  • Set small goals.
Once I know what I have in store for that day, I make goals mentally for that day. Something like, 'sew 10 pouches before taking a break' or 'after lunch write 2 blog posts before checking emails'. It seems easy enough, but if you follow through with multiple small goals you'll notice your to-do list will get checked off a lot quicker. Your list won't seem so daunting when broken into smaller segments.

  • Take time for yourself too.
I can easily get caught up at home working on a project and I'll actually forget to eat lunch or I'll stand up to use the bathroom and realize my legs are really sore or I'm light-headed. Make sure you take time for you. Do 5 minutes of stretches when you get up for something. Take regular water and coffee breaks in the kitchen just to break yourself away from your computer screen, desk, or sewing machine. A change of scenery, even for 15 minutes, can do wonders for your brain, eyes, and posture. I usually spend this time petting or playing with my cats which is a good stress reliever.

Dream Office

As for my current office/craft room, things are in shambles right now and not as put together as I'd like. I'm hoping to have a proper set up by the end of 2017! So for now, here's an idea of what I'd love for an office:

All these items can be found in the Wayfair's Office Furniture section.

How cute is that Potted Pen Stand? And I'm surprising myself more and more when I pick white over other colours, but it's become my favourite backdrop for pops of colour through accessories.

What tips do you have for staying productive at home?

Gilmore Girls

Like a good chunk of the population, I'm so excited for Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life on Netflix. I am also part of the population who has to work the day it comes out - Black Friday. But since I received an opening shift and will be off work mid-afternoon I have plans with my couch, pajamas, and lots of coffee while I watch all of the Gilmore Girls episodes.

The spark of excitement for the new episodes has me wanting to start the entire series from the beginning again which I think I might do after Christmas.

But in the meantime I wanted to share these amazing items that allow you to showcase your love for Gilmore Girls...

Clockwise from top right corner:
1. Coffee, Coffee, Coffee
2. Dragonfly Inn
3. Luke's Diner

Etsy Crush

A while back on Instagram I came across an amazing account. It was full of cat pictures and their Etsy shop product pictures. My Cat is People is a great Instagram feed and their Etsy shop has become a favourite of mine. Their pins and shirt designs are so adorable. These are just a few of my favourite items from their Etsy.

Coffee Shop Dates

One of my favourite things to do is to try different coffee and bake shops. This is because of a couple of reasons:
  1. I love coffee.
  2. I love pastries and baked goods.
  3. The atmosphere - every single coffee and bake shop I've been to have a wonderful and inviting atmosphere.
  4. It's fun trying something new - new flavours, new menu items.
  5. I like spending money at a local, independent business than the 'big guy' coffee shops.
There are a handful of places that I've visited here that I really, really like. And even though Adam isn't big on coffee, I can usually drag him to one of the local coffee shops with the promise of some sort of sweet treat.

With the cooler weather, I'm finding myself trying to fit in all the coffee shop dates with both Adam and friends. Typically I head out bundled up in Winter clothing and lots of layers but in my ideal world, I'd be dressing in a similar outfit to this (I also really, really need that coffee & donuts tee!):

Do you have a favourite local coffee place? I'm thankful that even though this city is smaller than I'm used to, there is no shortage of good coffee and tasty pastries and baked goods.

My Life In Photos

It's September now and I'm allowing myself to be all about Fall - buying Fall Mums, burning pumpkin and cider-scented candles, eating pumpkin-flavoured things. Even the weather is cooperating and the temperature has dropped drastically.

August was a good end to the Summer and it went by so quick! Here's what I got up to.

Seymore being a dork like usual.

I played around with red lips for the first time ever.

Coffee date.

My favourite annual I planted this Summer.

One of the many chipmunks that lives in our yard.

Lots of cider was consumed this Summer.

I received the most adorable crocheted Leia in the mail right before Fan Expo.

I  was able to sew a Batman skirt for Fan Expo. I'm happy with how it turned out.

It's crazy Summer is over. But let's be honest, I'm excited to be entering my favourite season of the year!

February broke records for how cold it was here. And if it wasn't ridiculously cold, it was snowing, and we were shoveling and cleaning our cars off. I'm very happy that March has showed up and Spring is around the corner!

I found bubble tea! A place in the food court at our mall has a small sign for bubble tea. When Adam pointed it out to me, I ran over and ordered one. They blended it and made it into a slushie, but they did have a couple of jelly flavours. It wasn't bad. Better than no bubble tea.

Kitty snuggles.

Weird and hyper kitty.

I finally read the first izombie trade.

Wearing a new dress to brighten the cold and dark days.

Have I told you how excited I am for Spring to show up?!

My Life In Photos

The last few weeks have been crazy weather-wise. We went from a really wet Autumn to snow and freezing cold temperatures within a week! One week we're raking leaves and the next we're shoveling our driveway.

Our house has been chilly and not only am I layered up and hiding under blankets, but the cats have taken to snuggling together on this blanket.

See? Leaf raking!

A week later, snow!

Rocking my fox socks!

I have some amazing friends! One sent me this Pumpkin Spice coffee which is SO good and smells heavenly!

Another friend sent me Pumpkin Spice Oreos and they're definitely my favourite Oreo flavour! They're not too sweet or artificial tasting. Just perfect!

Is Winter upon you yet? We have a lot of snow again... flurries have been falling on and off for the past week. It sure looks pretty though.

Autumn Drinks

The weather has been exceptionally crappy the past couple of weeks. I'm ok with it being cooler, but it rains almost every day. So everything is damp and it feels extra cold. My hot drinks intake has increased because of this.

I recently stocked up on hot chocolate and chai latte mix at The Bulk Barn here. It's my favourite thing to do before Winter hits because it's so much cheaper and they always have different flavours, like salted caramel hot chocolate or mint hot chocolate. So it's fun buying as much as I want of each of the flavours.

For the longest time now, I've always made my own 'mocha' using powder hot chocolate and instant coffee. I think it helped ease me into coffee since it was sweeter. It's still a treat I make myself every once in a while. Adding marshmallows sometimes happens too...

My other hot drink treat has been Pumpkin Spice Brulee tea with french vanilla creamer. I cannot take credit for coming up with this combo on my own. Valerie gave me the idea a little while back on twitter and I've been drinking it ever since.

It's great because you can control the sweetness of this drink. I'm all for Pumpkin Spice Lattes but they can be unbelievably sweet which I'm not always looking for. Plus they cost $4 a pop. This is a healthier and less sugary pumpkin treat. I highly recommend Teavana's Pumpkin Spice Brulee tea!

What do you like to drink during the cold weather months?

House Sneak Peek

We moved into our house almost a month and a half ago and even though it feels like we've done a lot, the to-do list is never ending. But from what I hear, that's what owning a house is like.

There are rooms to be painted, and carpets to be replaced. Those things are waiting however because we have more pressing things to work on first... gardens to turn over so they're ready for Spring, the basement organized and unpacked, and putting up shelves in the bedroom so I can stop stubbing my toes on the last few boxes in there.

Inspired by Katie, I plan on doing some DIY before and after posts with some of the rooms. But I'm just not at that point yet. So for now you'll have to settle for some sneak peeks.

The kitchen is my favourite room in the house. I adore the colours and how much counter space I now have.

The neighbourhood is filled with big, mature trees. It's incredibly pretty and peaceful. Going for walks in the evening has become one of my favourite things.

I made myself a coffee and tea nook in the kitchen... just ignore the tea obsession.

We've come up with an alternate movie/TV boxset storage system which means we have extra DVD stands. I've turned one into a recipe book/candle/picture frame stand for the dining area. I think I also have a recipe book problem.

I hope you're having a wonderful weekend!

Valentine's Day has never been a big event for me and Adam. Sometimes we exchange a small gift and sometimes we just go out for a meal together. Now, in no way am I hinting this post towards Adam (I swear!), but I wanted to share some of my top picks that I'd be happy to get for Valentine's Day.
