Crafty Updates

I've been busy getting ready for my next comic convention, Niagara Falls Comic Con, which is in June. I've been trying to keep my Etsy updated as well. I've been working on pouches a lot this month. Using up scraps and making sure I have a wide range of sizes and fabrics for the show.

I also made up a custom pouch for my friend Valerie for her 3DS this month.

Check out my Etsy shop for recent items I've added and remember to keep an eye on there too because I'll be adding new items every week in May!

Mail Day

Not long ago I received a parcel in the mail from Emma! It was filled with so many adorable things! Seriously, I got a My Little Pony and a Batgirl figure, and stickers and postcards, and cute pouches! There was just so much amazingness!

"Some Days, I wish I was a Cat"... the perfect notebook for me!

And how cute is Emma's Spock design? I received a few postcards with this design.

A tea bag-shaped pouch?!? Amazing! And the Kissing Booth Tokens pouch is being carried with me everywhere in my purse.

Receiving such personal and wonderful parcels from the IGGPPC ladies, is just another reason I adore that community <3

What I'm Loving Now

What have you been reading and watching lately? There are SO many television shows and books I want to get too! I'm so thankful when I can multi-task, like with audio books. I love being able to listen to books while I sew or bake or clean.

Cinder

After numerous recommendations, I got The Lunar Chronicles audio books. The first book in the series is Cinder. It's a spin on the classic Cinderella fairy tale. Now let me tell you, it's nothing like you expect! But in a very good way. Cinder is a cyborg living in New Beijing at some point in the future. There's hovercrafts, a plague, and lunar people. It's a great story and I flew through the book. But the ending leaves you with so many unanswered questions. I had to start the second book in the series, Scarlet, right away to continue the story. I'm maybe 1/3 through Scarlet and so far it's almost as good as Cinder.

Cougar Town

So many television shows have already finished for the season and the rest are a couple of episodes away to ending for the season. Since I didn't have as many shows to watch recently, I ended up power watching Season 5 of Cougar Town. The show is so quirky and funny. I really love some of the characters. And there was some good story lines and character development in this season.

Marshmallow Macaron Tea

During a recent trip to the mall I stopped in Teavana to check out their new Spring teas. As soon as I smelled the Marshmallow Macaron tea, I knew it had to come home with me. It smells so sweet and delicious. And now I can't stop drinking it. It's delicious! Very vanilla-tasting, with a marshmallow aftertaste. And the tea is pink after it steeps and of course that matters. I highly recommend this tea if you're a fan of vanilla and sweet teas!

I hope you're having a wonderful weekend!

Rainbow Cake and Lemon Cookies

When my Nan and Mom came up to visit a couple weeks ago, I decided to bake a cake. I like having some treats on hand when company comes to visit, plus we were going to have a little early celebration for Adam's birthday.

My Mom had bought me a rainbow tie-dye cake mix which was just white cake mix with food colouring packets inside. It was super easy to make and it turned out amazing! I'm definitely going to make other coloured cakes in the future using similar techniques.

I thought the batter looked awesome after I poured it in the pans.

Rainbow sprinkles to top off the rainbow cake!

The inside was so vibrant! I really want to try this alternating certain colours. It'd make a pretty cool red and green Christmas cake.

I also made a batch of cookies before our company came up. We had dried blueberries in the cupboard and I had recently bought lemon chips at The Bulk Barn. I thought they'd be perfect together in an oatmeal cookie... and I was SO right! They're delicious! And the lemon chips are so good. They're bursts of a really strong lemon flavour. I'm definitely going to buy them again.

Both the cake and cookies were super yummy and didn't last too long in our home! Have you baked anything good lately?

Big City Dreaming

Ever since me and Adam decided on NYC being our trip this year, I can't stop thinking about it, planning it, looking things up online... I lose track of time thinking about and planning our trip constantly. It's fun though and I'm beyond excited!

Of course I've thought about what I'll wear and pack. I want to look cute but I also need to pack sensible clothes... lots of layers and shoes I can walk around in all day comfortably. But I'm definitely dreaming of adorable ModCloth dresses, trench coats, and Spring shoes. All things that I won't be packing, well maybe there will be dresses, but that's about it. Either way, I can dream about the perfect Big City wardrobe...

I'm just in love with all the cat prints at ModCloth right now. And the vintage popsicle dress needs to be mine!

Weekly Adventures

First of all, Happy Easter weekend!

The last week has been pretty busy for me. I had my Mom and Nan up last weekend visiting. We had loads of fun shopping, going out to eat, visiting the nickel, and drinking lots of tea. The rest of this week has been spent working and getting ready for Easter and Adam's birthday, which is tomorrow. He's working all weekend so I made a roast for dinner yesterday and baked cookies and a cake for him. It was a great day.

On Tuesday, Round 13 opened over at International Geek Girl Pen Pals Club. It's such a great theme this month! We've been sharing 'green' ideas over on our Facebook page. You can sign up here for a pen pal.

So what I can tell from my shopping outing this past week, there's a Peeps shortage at the usual stores I shop at. Good thing I bought some of the fun flavours earlier in the month to try.

The watermelon ones are actually pink inside!

The only flavours I'd buy again are the Vanilla Creme and Party Cake. The rest were good and I'm glad I tried them but I wouldn't care to buy them again.

What's your favourite Easter treat?

Outside Adventures

A couple of weeks ago we decided to head down to Bell Park to check out Ramsey Lake and see how things were melting. It was still incredibly snowy there. And much colder. You can still see the skating path on the lake and we saw a man sitting on the lake in his folding chair. We came across a couple of red squirrels and some ducks on our walk too.

Science North is always such an impressive sight in my opinion.

A man sitting on the ice (right side of the photo).

He must have found this peanut on the ground. We just happened to catch him trying to eat it.

We did get some snow yesterday but it's been raining a lot lately. A lot of our snow is starting to melt finally. I want to head back to Bell Park soon to see if things are looking more Spring-like there.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Last week we went to see Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It was an awesome movie! I was so excited to see this movie and it didn't disappoint. I'm a big Marvel fan and Captain America has proved to be one of my favourite superheroes from the Avengers. Chris Evans does an amazing job and I've thoroughly enjoyed both Captain America movies.

One of my favourite things about Captain America: The Winter Soldier was Black Widow. I've talked about Black Widow before after seeing The Avengers. I've only ever encountered Black Widow in the odd comic, since I read mainly X-Men comics. And I've never been a huge Scarlett Johansson fan but she does a pretty fantastic job playing Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow. I honestly didn't realize how large of a role she would have in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

As a female who reads a lot of comics, watches a ton of superhero movies and television shows, it's so refreshing to see a real woman playing a kickass female role and not having to degrade herself. Sure, depending on the artist, Black Widow can show off a decent amount of cleavage. But this wasn't the case in the movie version of Black Widow. In all the movies she's appeared in now, she comes off as strong, powerful AND sexy.

Who knows what will happen, but I really think they should make a stand alone Black Widow movie. She's tough and doesn't rely on the men to save her. And she's not wearing some skimpy outfit that barely covers her arse or has her breasts falling out of her suit. I respect her and cheer for her. My inner child wants to be her. Ok, maybe even adult-me wants to be her too.

This movie made me even more excited for the next Avengers movie. I really can't wait to see everyone together again.

Have you see Captain America: The Winter Soldier yet?

Spring Itch

We've had a few days that feel like Spring is around the corner... the sun comes out and the temperature reaches the low positive numbers. But there's still dirty snow banks everywhere and they're calling for snow on Monday. I have had a bad Spring itch lately. I'm desperate for sunshine, green grass, and not having to wear a coat. This Winter has been too long.

Pictures like these make me long for Spring weather bad. I will be a very happy girl when all the snow is gone from sight and I can go outside with flats on my feet.

If My Blog Was An Outfit

Some fellow lady bloggers have been inspiring me lately. They've been creating outfits inspired by their own blog. An outfit that represents them. I thought this was such a great idea and we were discussing how fun this is over at IGGPPC headquarters. I created an outfit for the IGGPPC blog, well at least for a portion of the blog. It's hard to cover and represent the entire community with one outfit since there's over 5,000 users with interests all over the place. You can check out my post here: If Our Blog Was An Outfit: Marvel.

I wanted to create an outfit for my personal blog as well. This was actually a bit harder because I wanted to include everything I loved which would be a very ugly outfit. So I had to narrow it down... narrow down my interests and loves and how they all work together. I think I came up with the perfect outfit that represents who I am.

If My Blog Was An Outfit

Necklace/Nail Polish/iPhone Case/Tote Bag/Sunnies/Cardigan/Boots/Tank/Skirt/Leggings

This style of outfit is something I wear often. I live in leggings. I actually just bought a back-up pair of my favourite black leggings because I'm afraid I'll wear out the current ones I have. Pairing them with a skirt and either a tank top or t-shirt is my go-to everyday look. Throw in tall riding boots and a long cardigan, and I'm feeling comfortable and cute.

The X-Men necklace (I own this exact one) and tank top show off my love and obsession for the X-Men universe. The cat tote bag is just too adorable and represents my cat lady status. Plus. this bag is large which I need to carry all my things. And that iPhone case is exactly me - a kitty, ice cream cone, rainbows, and a kawaii cloud!

And of course I had to include sparkly, pink nail polish! It's pink, it sparkles, and it reminds me of cupcakes and donuts! No matter what the style trend, I will always be partial to large, oversized sunglasses. I can't live without them!

What outfit would your blog be?

Cookies and Purple Cake

I haven't been too inspired with my baking lately. Don't get me wrong, I've been baking a lot. But it's just easy things that I know how to make and whip up quickly. I really need to sit down and find some recipes that interest me and try them out. Adam has requested a few ingredients he'd like in his upcoming birthday cake so I will definitely be trying something new for that.

Adam did request cake mix cookies a couple weeks ago so I used a Cherry Chip Cake Mix. I make cake mix cookies often. You can find one of the recipes at the bottom of the post here.

I love the pink dots throughout the cookies. The cookies were delicious but also smelled absolutely amazing. I'm a huge fan of cherry chip!

While Adam was sick, he was still craving something sweet so I decided on a Jello Poke Cake. Another tried and true recipe. You can find my recipe here, which I used on cupcakes. He requested grape Jello and it was really good! Seymore actually attacks me while I eat this cake. He has a love for whipped cream (or Cool Whip in this case). It's my fault for putting some on his nose. It's just funny watching him try to paw at my plate while I eat this cake.

I also made up a batch of Mint Chocolate Chip Cookies with more applesauce than butter so they ended up super fluffy. But also, very addicting!

What recipes have you tried lately or plan on trying? I need some inspiration!

What I'm Loving Now

Yesterday evening we had ANOTHER snow storm. Yep. I woke up today, April the 5th, and had to clean 5 inches of snow and ice off my car while standing in snow that hit almost at mid-calf. So it feels weird to be eyeing up Spring clothing and realizing that show seasons are wrapping up. I associate those things with semi-warm weather and green stuff outside.

I was happy that one of my favourite shows came back on this week after a hiatus. I'm hoping there's still a handful of more episodes left in this season because I just can't part with the show yet.

The Mindy Project

When The Mindy Project went on a small hiatus they left us with quite the ending. We've all been waiting for Mindy and Danny to finally get together. But was the kiss for real? Well the two episodes that aired this week completely melted my heart. If it's possible, I adore Mindy Kaling and this show more than before. Did you watch it?

Fangirl

You might have heard of this book, Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell? A friend of mine recommended Eleanor&Park by the same author. Well, soon after I heard about her next book, Fangirl. My twitter feed basically blew up the week the book came out. I knew I had to read it. So I haven't read Eleanor&Park YET, but I consumed Fangirl like it was going to disappear the next morning on me.

It's so good. I had so many feels throughout the book. Moments of heartache, and happiness, and moments where I know I just had a silly grin on my face. Cath, the lead character, was someone I related to on certain levels and in certain ways. I cannot recommend this book more!

Apple Dump Cake

We all know I love to bake and I enjoy most sweet treats. Recently we bought a whole bunch of apples because they were marked down (and getting old) at our grocery store. So I decided to make up a dump cake with them with one of my boxed cake mixes. I followed this recipe but used real apples instead of apple pie filling. It was delicious and me and Adam finished the cake off quicker than we should have. But we just couldn't help it. It was yummy.

What have you been reading, watching, or enjoying?

My Life in Photos

The first day of Spring was in March but it certainly didn't look or feel like it. We spent a lot of time indoors due to the snow we continuously kept getting. Besides working on sewing projects, I spent a lot of time reading, listening to audio books, and watching TV and movies with Adam.

I started the next issue of Runaways. I really enjoy this series and highly recommend it. But the binding on these digest-size books is horrible! Every Runaways book I own (7 now) have pages falling out. I'm a gentle person and make a point of being extra gentle with these books especially. I'm half way through this Runaways book and there's already a handful of pages falling out.

I won a giveaway through Please Deliver To and received some amazing postcards in the mail!

Marshmallow Cones are a sign of Summer for me! I have eaten so many of these with my best friend during the Summer. I spotted these recently but until the weather warms up outside I just can't eat these yet.

The Bulk Barn has Easter sprinkles right now and I so want the Easter Egg Quins. They're adorable!

I have finally noticed some length to my hair this past month. This makes me very happy.

The cats were their normal selves - cute and dorky!

The cats have been taking turns in the bathtub lately. They like to drink the water dripping out of the tap. Seymore consistently has spiky hair because of this.

Logan's tucked in paws melt my heart.

Like I said, March was full-on Winter here...

How was March for you? Anything fun or exciting happen? I'm looking forward to April and hoping that Spring shows up!
