What I'm Loving Now

I'm back at the point in the month where I'm wondering where the heck the month went?! How is October more than half over? I've been spending my free time this month reading, baking, and squeezing in some new television shows.

Black Widow: Forever Red

I finally got around to reading this book. It's a YA book written by Margaret Stohl about Marvel's Black Widow. Little did I know the follow up book would be released this month. Perfect timing on my behalf I think. I really, really enjoyed this book. I didn't know what to expect initially since I'm an avid comic book reader but the book grew on me quick and I was invested in the story pretty fast. I'm excited to pick up the next book, Red Vengeance.

The Good Place

I've talked about my excitement for this television show before because of my love for Kristen Bell. This is one of the few shows that have aired this season that I'm actually caught up on. I'm not completely sold on the concept of the show but I'm enjoying it still. Kristen Bell is so adorably hilarious in it and she's definitely the main reason I keep watching it.

What I'm Reading Now

Never in my life have I had so many books on the go. I have two novels on my bedside table that are both partially read, an audiobook over half way done, and a graphic novel sitting on the floor that hasn't been touched in a couple of weeks.

This is what happens when new books are released and I can't stop myself from starting them even when I have books on the go already.

1. The Nest by Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeney (audiobook)

I needed a new audiobook and this book has been in my face constantly. Chapters Indigo has been advertising it like crazy in their emails so I looked to see if there was an audiobook. There is and I'm enjoying it thoroughly. It's a great story, very interesting, and I'm enjoying all the characters.

2. The Importance of Being Married by Gemma Townley (novel)

I picked this book up at a garage sale and it's been sitting on my shelf forever. I thought it was time to read it and that it would be the perfect light book to read throughout Summer. Even though the story isn't too complex, I'm still really enjoying it. It's an easy read and I've found myself hooked on the story line and main characters. Unfortunately I've put the book aside while I read the next book in my list.

3. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany, and Jack Thorne (novel)

As I shared before, I picked this book up on its release day and haven't had the chance to finish it with how busy I've been. This book will be read before anything else however because I want to continue with the Harry Potter story.

4. Black Widow: The Sting of the Widow by assorted writers (graphic novel)

This is a compilation of Black Widow comic books that jumps through the years. I've only read the first couple of comics in this book but it's fun to see how the styles change from comic to comic depending on the year. Black Widow has easily become one of my favourite characters and I'm enjoying reading more of her history.

On top of the above list, there's a handful of novels, comics, and audiobooks I'm itching to get to so I'm expecting this crazy list of books to stay heavy for a while.

What are you reading?

My Life In Photos

Since upgrading to a new phone (the LG G4) I've been taking more photos than normal since I now have a phone with a better camera than my previous Galaxy S4. So please forgive my photo spamming this Summer.

With that being said, here are my photos from the last few weeks...

I squeezed in a last minute trip to Canada's Wonderland with a friend last week. It was so much fun, though I forgot how nauseous rollercoasters can make me. It was still a great day though and it ended with an amazing funnel cake and a drive home filled with singing in the car.

We've already been to the beach a couple times this month and it's been beautiful. One night we just went in the water up to our knees but last weekend we went right in and the water was surprisingly warm.

So this picture happened because I didn't realize my camera was in 'selfie' mode. I thought I was taking photos of the lake. I was super confused on our drive home looking through photos. It was too sunny to see the screen when I was taking the photos so I had no idea I was getting pictures of myself.

We hit up Silver Bullet for burgers and fries after our beach day and it was delicious. It's easily one of my favourite places to grab food in the Summer.

Logan looking especially cute.

Seymore being a dork 'hiding' in his tent.

After rewatching the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie I had to find green nail polish like Megan Fox's in that movie. I found the perfect shade and I'm obsessed!

Trades I'm reading right now. I picked up the Black Widow book at Graphic-Con earlier in the month.

S'moreos have made their way to Canada! Though, I've only spotted them in one store (Shoppers Drug Mart), which is odd since it's a drugstore. But I won't complain. I got s'moreos for the Summer.

Speaking of s'mores, Mighty Canadian Doughnuts had s'mores as their flavour of the month and it was so good! The doughnut was cut in half, marshmallow spread was put in between, then Hershey chocolate is melted on top with a marshmallow in the middle. Yum!

How was June for you? I'm pretty excited for upcoming plans for the rest of the Summer. It's turning out to be a pretty great couple of months.

Avengers Wish List

Yesterday we went to see Avengers: Age of Ultron and I really enjoyed it. I did like the first movie better but it was nice to see them focus some more attention on some of the other characters in Age of Ultron - like Black Widow, Hulk, and Hawkeye. I had mixed feelings going into this movie about the 'twins', Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. I know Quicksilver from the X-Men comics I've read. I know him as a mutant and Magneto's son. I didn't know how these characters were going to be portrayed in Age of Ultron since Marvel is not allowed to call them 'mutants'. But they were alright in the movie. I ended up growing to love Scarlet Witch. I'm excited to see her in future movies.

Just like in the other Marvel movies, I absolutely loved Black Widow. Natasha is so badass. So this wish list is a little heavy on Black Widow items.

I really need some Black Widow merchandise in my life. And how amazing is that Captain America sweater?!?

Have you seen Avengers: Age of Ultron yet? What'd you think?

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Last week we went to see Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It was an awesome movie! I was so excited to see this movie and it didn't disappoint. I'm a big Marvel fan and Captain America has proved to be one of my favourite superheroes from the Avengers. Chris Evans does an amazing job and I've thoroughly enjoyed both Captain America movies.

One of my favourite things about Captain America: The Winter Soldier was Black Widow. I've talked about Black Widow before after seeing The Avengers. I've only ever encountered Black Widow in the odd comic, since I read mainly X-Men comics. And I've never been a huge Scarlett Johansson fan but she does a pretty fantastic job playing Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow. I honestly didn't realize how large of a role she would have in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

As a female who reads a lot of comics, watches a ton of superhero movies and television shows, it's so refreshing to see a real woman playing a kickass female role and not having to degrade herself. Sure, depending on the artist, Black Widow can show off a decent amount of cleavage. But this wasn't the case in the movie version of Black Widow. In all the movies she's appeared in now, she comes off as strong, powerful AND sexy.

Who knows what will happen, but I really think they should make a stand alone Black Widow movie. She's tough and doesn't rely on the men to save her. And she's not wearing some skimpy outfit that barely covers her arse or has her breasts falling out of her suit. I respect her and cheer for her. My inner child wants to be her. Ok, maybe even adult-me wants to be her too.

This movie made me even more excited for the next Avengers movie. I really can't wait to see everyone together again.

Have you see Captain America: The Winter Soldier yet?
