My Life In Photos

So March was a busy, busy month for me - the Geek Girl Pen Pals birthday, Toronto ComiCon, Easter.... so many things to sew and bake for!

I ended up making a batch of chocolate mint blondies at the beginning of the month because we wanted something sweet in the house.

If you follow any IGGPPC social media you would have seen I made an Earl Grey Tea and French Vanilla Cake for the IGGPPC birthday. You can find the recipe here.

Turtles!

I'm finally seeing some hair growth (and I had the a-line fixed up and my hair is now all one length, except for normal layering) which makes me happy. I just need another 6 months of hair growth before I'm content!

Strawberries have been absolutely delicious lately. I can't stop buying them at the grocery store.

The cutest little Ewoks that Adam surprised me with for Valentine's Day.

Davids Tea has been killing it lately with flavours and designs. I pretty much want everything in their store right now.

I found the cutest cupcake liners the other day and now I'm super excited to make cupcakes. What flavour shall I make...

How has March been for you?

Easter Treats

I follow a bunch of bakeries, baking supply companies, and other popular online bakers on Instagram. I love seeing pretty pictures of homemade treats because it gives me so much inspiration and makes me want to get in the kitchen and make something!

For the past couple of weeks my Instagram feed has been loaded up with pictures of Easter goodies, specifically treats made with Cadbury Mini Eggs. So I headed out and bought a whole bunch to make some things for Easter weekend.

First up was Mini Egg cookies.

I just used my favourite chocolate chip cookie recipe and replaced the chips with crushed Mini Eggs and added some blue sugar sprinkles to the tops before baking. It's an easy way to get a small taste of Mini Eggs at lunch time or with a coffee.

I knew I wanted to try my hand at another candy bark after making one back at Halloween. So I picked up some jelly beans to go with the Mini Eggs. I was planning on using melted chocolate chips but Michaels Craft Store had their Candy Melts on sale recently so I grabbed two packs - yellow and Colorburst Pastel.

Easter Candy Bark Directions:

1. Line a baking sheet with wax paper. Melt candy melts according to directions on the package.

2. Pour melted candy onto wax paper and swirl the two colours together.
3. Add candy and sprinkles to the mixture on the wax paper. Put in refrigerator.

4. Let harden for a couple of hours and then break into pieces.

I love how it looks and it's fun adding whatever candy you want to the bark. I'll be sure to make another bark soon since I have leftover Candy Melts. I'm already thinking about what candy and sprinkle combinations I can use.

Did you make any special treats for Easter weekend?

5 Fandom Friday: Favourite Geeky Stores

This week's 5 Fandom Friday is a fun one because I'm constantly looking for geek clothes, accessories, and gadgets!

Let's get to it...

1. TeeFury

I'm sure you've heard of at least one of the many websites that sells geeky t-shirt designs for a 24-hour period and then they disappear (until another site sells the same design at a future date). I've been addicted to these sites for years now and have bought some super awesome geeky mash-up shirts. TeeFury tends to be the site I buy from the most. I'm always squeeing at their designs.

2. Hallmark

A little weird, right? Not anymore! In the last couple of years they've started carrying geeky things - Itty Bittys and housewares (mugs, picture frames, etc.). And they're all SO cute! Their Star Wars merchandise and Itty Bitty line keep me coming back.

3. Teeturtle

Teeturtle is a Canadian company that makes cute geeky designs to print on t-shirts, hoodies, and socks. Their designs are super adorable and I kind of want everything on their site.

4. Look Human

I was introduced to Look Human a couple of years ago through social media. One of my twitter friends would post the cutest Sailor Moon-inspired tanks and I had to know where she got them. Look Human! They have an amazing collection for cat lovers and coffee addicts so the company has won me over. But their fandom designs are what grabbed my attention initially. I also finally got one of their Harry Potter-inspired 'Always' tanks for Christmas this year!

5. EB Games aka GameStop

My husband has a video game addiction and I also dabble in video games myself. This has me visiting an EB Games location almost weekly. I'm pretty sure our local store employees could recognize us anywhere. Slowly they've been bringing more items into the store besides video games.... Pop! Vinyl figures, board games, Nintendo Christmas ornaments, t-shirts, blind boxes. So now the store has become even more appealing to me.

What are you favourite geeky stores? I'm always looking for new places to check out!

Fandom Favourites

Hello! This past weekend was Toronto ComiCon and what do comic conventions usually do? Make me want to buy all the things! I was pretty good in controlling myself with purchases but I have a giant wish list for future conventions and for my birthday this Summer.

1. There were so many girls (of all ages) dressed as Rey at the convention and it has me wanting to try her hairstyle and wear this dress from We Love Fine.

2. The Powerpuff Girls are back April 4th! I love the original series and I know this new series will feel different, especially with new voice actors. But I can't wait to see the girls in action again.

3. I recently had a favourite episodes of Gilmore Girls marathon with a friend and all it did was re-ignite my Gilmore Girls love. I desperately need this tank from Look Human even though it's probably not true.

4. So when browsing Kate Spade's website recently I noticed their Minnie Mouse collection. Can we all agree this Minnie Mouse bow clasp is too precious?!

5. Everywhere I look right now I find these Funko Disney Mystery Minis Blind Boxes. They are SO cute. So far I've held off buying any, but every time I see them my self control weakens.

Springtime Wish List

Yesterday was the first official day of Spring and I'm so ready for it! Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Winter-hater but I'm so done with snow and I want all the sunshine right now!

It doesn't look like Spring has actually shown up... we have a snow storm warning for later this week and it was freezing out today. But it should be around the corner! At least I hope so...

When looking at items I've pinned and saved to my bookmarks lately, it seems I have a blue obsession. I think it's going to be my Spring colour this year.

Pastels, light cotton dresses, open toed shoes... I cannot wait for some warmer weather!

5 Fandom Friday: Geeky Tattoos I Want Or Have

It's another 5 Fandom Friday! You can see my first post about it here. This week's topic is a fun one because I have a plethora of tattoos in my mind that I'd like to get.

Currently I have 6 tattoos but none of them are 'geeky'. Two of my tattoos are inspired by Kurt Halsey which I absolutely love and they hold a lot of meaning to me. But they're not geeky.

These are my top 5 geek tattoos I'd like to get, and hope to get when I have some extra money (hah! like that's a thing).

1. Deathly Hallows symbol

I've considered numerous Harry Potter-inspired tattoos but I always come back to the Deathly Hallows. There are some seriously gorgeous interpretations of this symbol too.

2. Pixel Hearts

This tattoo has run through my head the longest. There's meaning behind wanting it that focuses on my relationship with Adam.

3. Cats

Yes, I'm considering this a geeky tattoo. Why? Because I'm beyond obsessed and in love with cats. I geek out about them and I don't care who knows.

4. Totoro

He represents so much magic and imagination and I'd love to carry him around on me.

5. X-Men symbol

I'd love to get this small symbol somewhere on me to discreetly represent my mutant love.

What geeky tattoos do you want or have?

Crafty Updates: Toronto ComiCon

This Friday is Toronto ComiCon. I'll be in Artist Alley again and I'm so excited! I have a ton of product ready for this show and I can't wait to get set up and check out all the booths and other artists there.

I've been incredibly busy sewing up new products for the show. My last craft show of 2015 left me pretty bare so I had a lot to make. These are the last few items I sewed up recently:

I'm so in love with the fabrics I got for my shows this year. I'm pretty sure I'll be making myself a Star Wars: The Force Awakens bag for myself after this weekend.

If you're heading to the show, come say hi! I'll be at Table A255 in Artist Alley!

5 Fandom Friday: Favourite Fictional Foods

If you follow any geek bloggers on social media you might have noticed '5 Fandom Friday' posts. It started about a year and a half ago by the incredibly talented Megan and Kristin. It's a weekly link up with prompts planned out ahead of time. You can check them out here.

Since I'm late to the party I might go back and do some past ones when I have some time or when my brain is on the fritz and I need help brainstorming blog ideas.

Today is Favorite Fictional Foods!

1. Butterbeer

The Harry Potter universe definitely delivered some amazing sounding food and treats that I wish were real. But mainly, Butterbeer! Yes, there are recipes everywhere for it. But I want the actual butterbeer from the books.

2. Senzu beans

In the world of Dragon Ball, Senzu beans have rejuvenating powers. They fulfill your health and restore your energy. This would be an amazing bean to have in our world!

3. Beer Batter Cupcakes with Maple Bacon Frosting

Yes, these are the cupcakes from 2 Broke Girls when Max and Caroline go on 'Spring Break'. I know I could find a recipe online for this type of cupcake, but I'd like to reach through my TV screen and just take one that Max bakes.

4. Marshmallow Mermaid Pie

Another food I could try to replicate in my kitchen, but I'd rather just take the entire pie that Keri Russell's character in Waitress makes.

5. Applejack's Cider

The cider from the Sweet Apple Acres must be pretty amazing considering how many ponies line up for it. I can't watch this episode without craving it.

What are your favourite fictional foods?
