5 Fandom Friday: Favourite Fictional Foods

If you follow any geek bloggers on social media you might have noticed '5 Fandom Friday' posts. It started about a year and a half ago by the incredibly talented Megan and Kristin. It's a weekly link up with prompts planned out ahead of time. You can check them out here.

Since I'm late to the party I might go back and do some past ones when I have some time or when my brain is on the fritz and I need help brainstorming blog ideas.

Today is Favorite Fictional Foods!

1. Butterbeer

The Harry Potter universe definitely delivered some amazing sounding food and treats that I wish were real. But mainly, Butterbeer! Yes, there are recipes everywhere for it. But I want the actual butterbeer from the books.

2. Senzu beans

In the world of Dragon Ball, Senzu beans have rejuvenating powers. They fulfill your health and restore your energy. This would be an amazing bean to have in our world!

3. Beer Batter Cupcakes with Maple Bacon Frosting

Yes, these are the cupcakes from 2 Broke Girls when Max and Caroline go on 'Spring Break'. I know I could find a recipe online for this type of cupcake, but I'd like to reach through my TV screen and just take one that Max bakes.

4. Marshmallow Mermaid Pie

Another food I could try to replicate in my kitchen, but I'd rather just take the entire pie that Keri Russell's character in Waitress makes.

5. Applejack's Cider

The cider from the Sweet Apple Acres must be pretty amazing considering how many ponies line up for it. I can't watch this episode without craving it.

What are your favourite fictional foods?

Cookies and Cupcakes

It's the last day of our long weekend here in Canada. I'm a little sad that I have to go back to work tomorrow. It was a gorgeous weekend and we spent a lot of time outdoors. Today, I've been relaxing, catching up on sewing, and taking pictures of pouches for Etsy.

So far, I've had a busy month in the kitchen. I've been baking cookies and cupcakes every week.

I whipped up a batch of chocolate apricot cookies a couple of weeks ago for Adam. They turned out so yummy. The cut up dried apricots were a nice balance with the chocolate chips.

Baking cookies on a hot day is not always smart.

I also made a batch of Orange Pop Cupcakes. I've been wanting to try making cupcakes using pop in place of water. The cupcakes turned out really moist and not overly sweet. Personally, I couldn't taste the orange flavour but other people claimed they could. The recipe I followed for the cupcakes recommended sprinkling icing sugar over the cupcakes instead of frosting. I guess if I tried making frosting with some of the orange pop, the flavour might have been stronger. I want to try my hand at root beer cupcakes next since it's one of my favourite flavours.

This past week I finished up a nerdy recipe post for DN! Extraordinaire. DragonBall Z Cupcakes... which are Lemon Green Tea Cupcakes with Lemon Green Tea Buttercream. You can find the post and recipe here.

The cupcakes turned out incredibly yummy! I tried sharing them with everyone to get feedback and also because I ended up with 24 cupcakes. We actually have 6 in the freezer right now. I've never put my own cakes or cupcakes in the freezer before so we'll see how they taste after we pull them out in a week.

I hope everyone had a great weekend!
