Indoor Gardening

Since we moved into our house a couple of years ago I've found myself wanting to get into gardening; both indoors and out. Having a cat that absolutely loves to eat plants and dig in dirt makes it hard to have plants inside the house. We found out, however, that small succulents and cactus that fit on the window sill don't interest Seymore. Maybe because of the lack of big leaves to chew on?

Either way, I've accumulated a few little plants for my window sill in the kitchen. But I want more! This year I'm hoping to add more plants to the house. Both in small planters for the windows, air plants, and hopefully some terrariums.

So air plants, have you heard of them? I was beyond intrigued when I read about them. They don't need soil to survive. They absorb their nutrients through their leaves. This means you can put them anywhere that gets sunlight and where there's good airflow! How cool do they look?!

I'm still completely obsessed with adorable cacti and succulents. There are a few types that I desperately want to find (like the bunny ears cactus!). And eventually I'd like to make a terrarium with a bunch of them too. They're so incredible to look at.

We know of two greenhouses near us that I plan to hit up as soon as they open this spring to check out their selection of succulents. I've always visited the greenhouse too late in the season and they're picked over. This is just another reason why I'm itching for spring to show up!

Gardening

It's Summer time which means I'm obsessed with gardening again. We picked out all our flowers and vegetables at the garden centres last month and planted them. We've been having a bit of a hard time though because we have chipmunks who like to dig in our garden and rabbits and hares eating our plant leaves and flowers. It's becoming a challenge this year.

Last month we went out to Azilda Greenhouse to look around. I went home with a cactus but I fell in love with so many plants there.

The newest cactus addition is on the left. I love it.

Some of the annuals we bought are too cute. Like these little fuzzy flowers. There were a lot more I would have liked to have picked up but a lot of them needed full sun and our gardens don't get that much sun.

Last week our lillies started to open up and they're absolutely gorgeous. They're such a beautiful addition to our garden.

Right now we're monitoring our vegetable garden and keeping our fingers crossed that we get some tomatoes, peppers, and tons of peas and beans!

My Life In Photos

I'm at the point in the holiday season where I think "where did the time go? How is Christmas SO soon?!" The fact that it's less than a month until Christmas blows my mind. Work has become super busy so I'm working more hours. I have Etsy orders coming in, a craft show to prepare for, and of course, Christmas gifts to buy.

A lot of my photos lately have been from around the house and tend to be of our pets since they distract me when photographing products for Etsy or finished treats for recipe posts. So if you don't want to see adorable baby turtles or cute cats, turn away now!

My heart melts when I catch the cats watching the turtles in the aquarium.

Every single box is a cat trap for Seymore.

My window sill garden is expanding!

I bought very, very discounted dresses at Old Navy recently and I cannot stop wearing them. They're beyond comfortable with leggings and a sweater.

How's your November been?

To Do List: May

May is here and Spring is in full-swing! We've had days upon days of sunshine and +20 degree Celsius weather. We've been spending time outside - walking, barbecuing, pulling weeds. It's be lovely.

Here are some things I'd like to do in May:
- hike at Laurentian Conservation Area
- go for walks along the boardwalk at Bell Park
- prep the gardens for vegetables, flowers, and shrubs
- go on a small road trip outside the city

I'm itching to start planting things outside but we still have to wait until the end of the month/beginning of June before the possibility of frost goes away. For now I may just buy some more indoor plants and find some adorable planters to put them in. I'm dreaming of a window sill of cactus (the cats ignore them luckily).

For now, I'm heading out to do errands, hit up a couple of places for Free Comic Book Day, and pick up a s'mores Frappuccino! It's a beautiful day to drive with my windows down and music playing loudly.

Have a good weekend!

My Life In Photos

Today is Adam's birthday so we have plans this evening and I spent my morning baking a cake, wrapping gifts, and just doing some daily chores so the rest of the day would be free for birthday celebrations.

April's been an odd month and a fast month. With Easter, Adam's birthday, Spring showing up, and getting ready for my next convention in June, it's been busy.

Speaking of birthdays, I picked up a Birthday Cake Frappuccino at Starbucks earlier this month for the Frappuccino's birthday. It was so good and the raspberry whipped cream was amazing!

More TMNT figures were purchased and I love that they're from the LARPing episode!

Our little cactus from last year is still thriving. We want to get a couple more for the window sill.

I found Peeps cat toys at PetSmart just before Easter! I was so excited to bring these home for the cats. I think I ended up being more excited about these toys than they were though...

Kitty snuggles while I play video games.

This picture is blurry but I love it. Logan tends to get very interested in my phone or camera when I pull it out. He always makes it tough to photograph him.

Have a good day!
