Gardening

It's Summer time which means I'm obsessed with gardening again. We picked out all our flowers and vegetables at the garden centres last month and planted them. We've been having a bit of a hard time though because we have chipmunks who like to dig in our garden and rabbits and hares eating our plant leaves and flowers. It's becoming a challenge this year.

Last month we went out to Azilda Greenhouse to look around. I went home with a cactus but I fell in love with so many plants there.

The newest cactus addition is on the left. I love it.

Some of the annuals we bought are too cute. Like these little fuzzy flowers. There were a lot more I would have liked to have picked up but a lot of them needed full sun and our gardens don't get that much sun.

Last week our lillies started to open up and they're absolutely gorgeous. They're such a beautiful addition to our garden.

Right now we're monitoring our vegetable garden and keeping our fingers crossed that we get some tomatoes, peppers, and tons of peas and beans!

Outdoor Adventures

A couple of weekends ago we went to my Aunt's trailer for a couple of days. It was perfect weather - not too hot and not cold. The rain held off and we were able to sit outside most of the time we were there. We went for a couple of walks and had a campfire. It was a great weekend.

I'm now officially obsessed with Forget-Me-Nots. I even bought some seeds to plant in our yard after seeing these all over their property.

The water level was really high and there was very little beach. Normally these stairs lead to a sandy beach, and not right into the lake.

This weekend was just the start of spending lots of time outdoors this Summer. We have so many day trips planned and lakes to hang out at over the next couple of months.

My Life In Photos

Today is my birthday and I'm really happy. So far the Summer has been great and filled with wonderful moments. I'm not going to write much today but I'll share some of my favourite photos from the last few weeks.

My Life In Photos

If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, you might have noticed the bombardment of photos of our garden and yard. We've been planting some new things alongside the perennials that the previous owners planted.

Between working on our gardens and planting our vegetable garden, I've spent so much time outside in June. It's been nice and it's weird to see tan lines from being out in the sun. We're working hard to get the gardens looking nice and also fixing up the rest of our yard.

We didn't plant these strawberry plants but a lot of flowers bloomed so we were excited for strawberries. However, not many strawberries are growing now that the flowers are gone and the few strawberries that are getting to be a decent size are being watched by chipmunks.

Another plant that came back on its own this year. It's called Herman's Pride and it's very pretty.

We also had a Bleeding Heart plant show up in the front of the house this year. It's very pretty and I'm hoping it survives its transplant.

I pretty much squeed when I saw these flowers in the garden centre. They're so tiny and adorable. So we got some for our planter out front. It's a Lantana plant and I plan on buying them every year since they come in a wide range of colours. Some plants are even multi-coloured.

These are two of the chipmunks living in our yard. There is a third one too. They're monitoring the strawberry patch.

My new favourite perennial - the astilbe. They're so pretty and I bought another one for the backyard in a salmon colour. We're learning they need TONS of water however or their little leaves curl up, like in this photo. I'm hoping once they're established, they won't be so needy.

We have a few plants that we're waiting for to bloom - lillies mainly. I cannot wait to see them open.

Sorry if you're getting sick of my flower photos! I never realized how much I'd enjoy gardening.

Springtime Itch

We've had a handful of sunny and fairly warm days this week. But the upcoming week is calling for rain or snow everyday. On top of next week's weather forecast, I'm fighting a nasty sinus cold that's kicking my butt.

All I want is Spring right now and to be able to breathe through my nose!

I hope you're having a better weekend than me. Working all weekend with a cold is not ideal.
