5 Fandom Friday: Fandom Guilty Pleasures

Today's topic makes me laugh a little because so many of the fandoms I'm into could be looked at as a guilty pleasure (cheesy, over dramatic, made for children) but I've learnt to embrace these interests. I'm finally at the age where I don't really care what other people think. But I know some of the things I'm into make people shake their heads...

So here are my top Fandom Guilty Pleasures:

1. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

I'm super into a show that my 5 year old niece also loves. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but co-workers do look at me funny when I buy MLP blind bags...

2. Pretty Little Liars

I'm that person chatting with a friend about our PLL theories and our feelings about certain couples and discoveries made on the show. But the show is super over the top and very unbelievable. But I LOVE it.

3. Nickelodeon's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

No one would question someone's love for TMNT. It's a classic that 80s kids grew up with. But the new show on Nickelodeon? Not everyone watches it. They assume it's stupid because it's not the classic and it's made for kids. Wrong! It's hilarious. I try to convince people of this regularly but it doesn't work most of the time.

4. Young Adult books

The YA genre has become super popular and I know a ton of adults who read them. But I've also encountered quite a few people who will snub off my book recommendations or book chatter when they realize I'm talking about a YA title. Not cool!

5. Geeky T-shirts

My t-shirt collection is mainly shirts with geek designs on them. I either get complimented on them or people look at the shirt funny - whether trying to figure out what's on it or why I'm wearing a shirt like that. When asked to wear a certain colour of shirt for work to celebrate something I have to explain that I don't have plain shirts... only shirts with designs and characters on them. They don't always understand.

I'm not ashamed of these fandom loves but I know not everyone gets them. What would your fandom guilty pleasure be?

What I'm Loving Now

I feel like my to-read and to-watch pile have grown massive over the Summer! So many friends have been recommending books and television shows. I guess as the temperatures drop and the sun sets earlier, I'll have more time in the evenings to snuggle up with a cat to get through these piles.

Lola And The Boy Next Door

Lola And The Boy Next Door is the second book in a series after Anna And The French Kiss. I was told by numerous people that Lola And The Boy Next Door was even better than the first book and it was! The two main characters, Lola and Cricket, were so lovable and flawed and just perfect. I got hooked quickly while listening to the audio book. I really like how they included Anna and Ã‰tienne (from Anna And The French Kiss) in this book too. I'm very excited to start the last book in the series, Isla And The Happily Ever After. We'll see if the next couple can top my love for Lola and Cricket.

Pretty Little Liars

I've been a fan of Pretty Little Liars for a couple of years now but I gave up at the beginning of season 5. I found the stories recycled and I wasn't caring for the characters anymore. But like with other shows, when I realized they were ending the series and wrapping the story up over the next season, I had an urge to catch up and watch the conclusion. I watched all of season 5 in August while getting ready for Fan Expo and I just started season 6 this week and I have to admit, season 5 gets really good. The story line gets quite dark and I enjoyed the new twists. I'm very interested in seeing how things turn out for the girls of Rosewood.

What I'm Loving Now

I don't know about you, but November is already flying by. In between work, sewing, IGGPPC, and squeezing in family visits and movie nights with Adam, I've been trying to keep up on TV shows and my book and comic reading. Along with new TV episodes airing, I finally caught up on some Pretty Little Liars.

Pretty Little Liars

During a few days I had to myself last week while Adam worked, I fit in the first 12 episodes of Season 4 of Pretty Little Liars. As soon as I watch an episode of this show I'm sucked in. It's so addictive. It didn't take long to watch the episodes. I just need to watch the Halloween episode and then I'm caught up until it starts again in January.

And as usual, I'm loving the clothes in this season. Normally I'm not a huge fan of Spencer's wardrobe but so far I'm loving her clothes the best.

Decorating

On top of having a huge clothing wishlist, I'm finding myself falling in love with decorating ideas and new things for our home. I think it's because of the time of year, but my urge to nest is just crazy lately. It feels weird catching myself eyeing up new bath mats and kettles instead of toys and books. I think it's from the early Winter we're experiencing and being in a new place. I want to feel cozy here, especially during the cold months.

Mugs

On top of decorating ideas for our home, I've fallen in love with the new mugs at Davids Tea! I cannot fully explain how much I adore these mugs. Just look!

The large latte mug is my favourite because of the size. I'm a big fan of large mugs.

Style Inspiration

As I've mentioned in previous posts, I really enjoy Pretty Little Liars. One of my favourite things about the show is seeing what the girls wear. I love all their fashion styles and I always love seeing how Hanna does her hair or what jewelry Aria is wearing. By far though, my favourite character on the show is Hanna Marin. I love her clothes, hair, accessories, and personality. She's cute and has some really funny lines.

Hanna's definitely not afraid of wearing colour and patterns. Her outfits are always really young, modern and hip. I wouldn't necessarily wear a lot of her clothes but I definitely like looking at them. Though, there are a few pieces she's worn that I'd love to have in my own closet. Oh, and I'd love to have all her purses!

To be honest, she also made me want to cut my hair back when I did. I adore her wavy bob and all the cute little ponytail hairstyles she does with it. Of course my hair looks nothing like hers and I can't for the life of me style it properly. But I still love Hanna's hair. She even makes me want to go back to blonde sometimes.

Hanna's style is very inspiring because she's not afraid to wear clothes that draw attention to her. Her clothes definitely reflect her personality and I like that. I admire her confidence and it makes me want to take more risks with my own fashion choices.

What I'm Loving Now

I just finished watching the third season of Pretty Little Liars. This show is such a guilty pleasure for me. I honestly don't really know anyone else who watches it. It's just so addicting and this season was no different. As usual, I was hooked within a few episodes. It's the whole not trusting all the characters' innocence that gets to me. I have to keep watching episode after episode to know what's going to happen!

Me and Adam are also re-watching the first season of Archer since he got it on blu-ray. That show is so hilarious and if you haven't watched it, do it! When I initially started the show, I was iffy on it but after a few episodes and getting to know the characters, I loved it. It's such a funny show and I'm picking up even more hilarious lines watching it a second time.

Ok, I know you're all probably so annoyed with my hair talk because I feel like every two months I'm itching for a change. I'm back on a bangs kick. I blame Veronica Mars... damn her sassy side bangs in season two! I think I've finally decided that I'm going to get them at the end of August. I figure I can handle them for a few weeks during the end of summer. And then I'll be able to enjoy them in the Fall without a sweaty forehead.

Since moving, we've been shopping at a different grocery store because apparently moving 5 hours up North means we don't have the same grocery stores up here... a few of them are the same and then there are a couple I've never heard of. But the store we ALWAYS shopped at, isn't up here. Anyways, the store we've been shopping at carries these Japanese Buns. When I found them in the bakery the first time I was so excited. I've tried two different types now and they are delicious! They're cheap too at only 99 cents a piece. It's a yummy treat that's not overly sweet.
Coconut Bun
The most delicious treat I found at the grocery store today. It had a creamy coconut filling!

Custard Bun
  Today's treat: custard bun!! #nomnomnom #utanebread #japanesebun

I came across this song on the weekend and it's basically been on repeat all week... it's so upbeat and dancey and catchy. I love it and it will be on my iPod for my next drive down to Hamilton so I can do some car dancing!

Current Obsessions

First of all, Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians! This is by far my favourite season of the year and Thanksgiving weekend feels like the official start. I have been caving into my pumpkin obsession for the last couple of weeks... pumpkin chai tea, pumpkin muffins from Tim Hortons, pumpkin pie, pumpkin loaf, pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, and pumpkin tarts!

I've also been keeping up with all the new television episodes during the last month. I'm enjoying the comedies - New Girl, 2 Broke Girls, The Mindy Project. And so far Grimm, Bones, and Elementary are entertaining me. I'm still watching Supernatural. I'm close to finishing season 2 and I'm so addicted to it. I've also been squeezing in some episodes from the first season of Pretty Little Liars. I've always wanted to watch this show and so far it's been pretty good. It's somewhat cheesy and the acting isn't the best, but I'm enjoying the storyline and some of the characters. Plus, it's fun seeing their clothes.

As for music, I was so excited to get my hands on No Doubt's new album, Push and Shove! Honestly, I'm a little bit disappointed. Some of the songs are not grabbing me. There are a few that I'd like to play on repeat though. Push and Shove being one of them.

There have been so many movies that have come out or are coming out this Fall that I'm so excited to see. We went to see Pitch Perfect last week and I thought it was really funny. I love Rebel Wilson and Anna Kendrick. We're also planning to head to the theatre soon to see Looper and Taken 2.
