Today is the last day of IGGPPCamp (which you can read about here) and in celebration of it I made a couple of s'mores recipes recently.
A recipe for S'mores French Toast was shared on the IGGPPC blog a few days ago. You can find the recipe here. I unfortunately wasn't able to join in the bake-along for it yesterday so I made the french toast the other day when both Adam and myself were off work.
Holy crap, it's incredible! If you like s'mores and french toast please do yourself a favour and try this recipe out!
The second recipe I made was a s'mores dip. I shared the recipe on the IGGPPC blog today. You can check out the recipe here. It was incredibly easy to make and so good!
Did you participate in any #IGGPPCamp activities this past weekend? As usual it was super fun and it's a little sad that it's over for the year.

Summer Camp: IGGPPCamp 2016
Wednesday, 17 August 2016
Tomorrow marks the start of our third annual Summer Camp over at International Geek Girl Pen Pals Club. It's one of my favourite things about summer and I'm excited to participate in some activities, read all the forum activities, and jump into some watch-alongs and bake-alongs.
From the 18th-22nd there are tons of activities happening, new blog posts going up on the site, and forum activities to participate in. If you're looking for something fun to try this weekend, head to the camp handbook to check all the details out.
I made up a yummy s'mores-related recipe for camp and once my post goes live, I'll definitely share the recipe. I also plan on trying out the s'mores french toast recipe that will be happening on Sunday too.

S'mores Cookie Bars
Monday, 17 August 2015
Tomorrow marks the last day of camp and it's bittersweet. IGGPPCamp has been so much fun so far and the activities have been great.
This past Saturday we had a bake-along and made S'mores Cookie Bars which turned out super yummy! I have to thank Danni for getting everything together and doing an awesome job hosting the live hangout!

2/3 cup butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
2 1/2 cups flour
1 package dark chocolate chips (you can use semi sweet or milk chocolate)
1 cups mini marshmallows
3 regular sized Hershey bars, broken (I used leftover Belgian milk chocolate)
2 packages graham crackers, broken into squares
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
2. Cream butter and
sugars together and then add in vanilla and egg.
3. In a separate bowl sift flour, baking soda,
salt, and cinnamon.
4. Mix the dry ingredients with the butter/sugar mixture.
5. Stir in chocolate chips and marshmallows.
6. Lay out the graham crackers on the baking sheet to cover the whole pan.
7. Place balls of dough over the graham crackers.
8. Bake for 5 minutes.
9. Press Hershey’s chunks into the cookie dough. Bake for 5-7 minutes more.
10. Wait until the pan is cool to cut into squares.

I had a bit
of leftover cookie dough so I decided to make some regular cookies with it and,
oh man, they're so good! You can't go wrong with gooey marshmallows in a
chocolate chip cookie.
Remember, a lot of the camp activities can be
done at any time! So even though tomorrow is the last day of camp, you can
still enjoy all the videos, DIYs, and activities. Check out the schedule here.

IGGPPCamp

Tomorrow is the first day of IGGPPCamp - our second Summer Camp at International Geek Girl Pen Pals Club! Last Summer we put on our first Summer Camp and it was so much fun and quite the success so we decided to put it on yearly.
This year it runs August 13th-18th and there's so many great activities happening! The details can be found in the Camp Handbook here.
I'll be doing the S'mores Cookie Bars bake-along Saturday evening! No surprise right?! I'm excited for it and to eat them! But seriously, there's some super fun things planned for camp. I'm really looking forward to Comic Book Boot Camp, Blanket Fort Challenge, Camp Cocktails, the Feminism 101 video, and all the craft and photo challenges!
There were Camp Kits being sold prior to camp and let me tell you, they're so awesome and are filled with the best things. I think it represents IGGPPCamp perfectly.
So definitely swing by IGGPPC between the 13th-18th for IGGPPCamp activities and fun times!

Last night was The Geekie Awards, where IGGPPC was nominated in the Websites/Blogs category. It was super fun to watch the award show streaming live from Hollywood with the other staff members through Google Hangouts. The show went longer than I had expected and you could see all of us winding down as the show went on. Unfortunately our site didn't win but it was still pretty amazing and exciting to see our website name and pictures on the screen when they announced the nominees. This was a lot of exposure for IGGPPC and our two staff members that went down there handed out business cards left and right!
Besides working on Summer Camp things, I've been a sewing maniac! Fan Expo Canada is just over a week away and as usual I'm stressing out and sewing constantly. I currently have a sore right hand and wrist from using scissors. Moving at the beginning of the month really threw off my sewing schedule for this convention which means I'm squeezing in as much as possible now.
So if I disappear slightly from social media over the next week or so, you know why!

And speaking of IGGPPC, Summer Camp is currently running on the site. We have activities, games, tutorials and more running every day until the 24th. Emily, one of the co-founders, created this adorable stop motion video for it.

S'Mores Appreciation
Monday, 11 August 2014
Yesterday was National S'Mores Day and I definitely celebrated it... I made a deliciously yummy s'more for dessert. I used two homemade peanut butter cookies, a piece of a plain Cadbury chocolate bar, and a marshmallow toasted in the oven under the broiler. It was amazing! Only recently did I find out you could put marshmallows in the oven on broil and it'd toast them. They're not exactly the same as toasted marshmallows on the fire, but it's good enough.
So over at IGGPPC, I'll be writing about s'mores and ideas on how to make them at home and different ingredients you could use. I'll also be doing a S'Mores Cupcake bake-a-long with Toasty live. How perfect is that?! I get to cover s'mores for Summer Camp!
Anyone who knows me, knows my love of marshmallows so I'm excited for my Camp activities!
Here are some yummy s'mores-inspired recipes to try:

Lumberjanes
Wednesday, 2 July 2014
A new comic series, Lumberjanes, kept popping up every time I was on the Internet over the last couple of months. The comic follows five teen girls, April, Jo, Mal, Molly, and Ripley, who are at Summer Camp - Miss Quinzella Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thistle Crumpet’s Camp for “Hardcore Lady Types.”- and end up on some interesting adventures fighting monsters and uncovering some secrets at the camp. This comic was originally supposed to be a miniseries but ended up getting bumped to an ongoing series.
So I recently picked up the first issue and I fell in love with right away! The first three issues of the series is out and I'm now caught up on it. So why do I love this comic? First of all, I adore the art style. I love how the artwork really does capture the feel of Summer camp and how the clothing and facial expressions on the characters really reflect each of their personalities. And second, it's a group of teenage girls going on adventures together, fighting monsters, strengthening their friendships, and learning about themselves. It's perfect.
So far, I have to say April is my favourite character. Though, it's a close tie between her and Ripley. And April didn't just win my heart because she's a ginger, but because I love her personality. She's ready for a fight every time the girls come across a monster or challenge. This was one of my favourite panels with April... I actually laughed out loud when I read it.
I'm also a fan of the outfit they put her in. I love her layered leggings and shorts look. Plus she wears the cutest hair tie and kicks butt in little black flats. I think her Summer camp wardrobe is just adorable.
If you're looking for a new comic book series to start, I highly recommend Lumberjanes! And I just found out today via Twitter, that BOOM! Studios will be selling Lumberjanes Scout Badges at San Diego Comic Con this year. Oh, how I wish I was going and could get my hands on one.

I am SO excited for this! A big chunk of my childhood was spent at trailers that my family members owned. My summers were filled with bon fires, swimming, and catching fireflies. I miss campgrounds a lot. It's probably why I encourage my Dad to have a bon fire every time I visit my parents and it's also why I cannot wait to have a house to have my own fire pit!
There are a TON of activities, games, and webinars being planned for Summer Camp. Check out the post here which is being updated daily as we confirm things. It looks like I'll be helping organize a movie watch-a-long and I'll be covering s'mores recipes/info (are you shocked?!? haha).
We also opened up Round 15 this past Sunday, so if you're interested in signing up, click here. It's our last round until Summer Camp so we can use July to fine tune all our plans.
Recently, a couple of IGGPPC members did an interview for The Guardian, a U.K. newspaper. And the article is out today!
Life has been a whirlwind lately but I'm loving everything that's going on!
