This past Friday was May the 4th, which is Star Wars Day!
I try to make a Star Wars-themed treat each year to celebrate. In the past I made Princess Leia Cinnamon Buns and Chewbacca cupcakes. It's fun brainstorming ideas with Adam and then executing the plan. This year I didn't have as much time since Emma is no longer napping like she used to. I don't get many big blocks of free time to bake right now.
So the final idea was Bantha Milkshakes! And let me just say they were so good! Adam is lactose intolerant so I made these with lactose-free vanilla ice cream and coconut milk. The coconut milk enhanced the flavour and made these even better in my opinion. Other than that, I just used blue food colouring and some Cool Whip to top them off. Super easy!
These would be perfect to make for a Star Wars marathon or themed party. I'm excited to make more milkshakes with the ingredients I bought (though I may leave out the food colouring).

My Life In Photos
Monday, 15 May 2017
The sun is shining, windows are open, Lana Del Rey is playing out of my stereo, iced tea is in hand. I really love this time of year. May has been going by quickly; a little too quickly for my liking. I'm ready to live out in the sunshine and go on adventures.
We have some fun plans for the rest of May and some fun things coming up in June so I'm definitely enjoying life right now!

I found some great book finds at Value Village earlier this month. They were also in perfect condition.

A lovely online friend sent me some extra comics she had. It was a lovely surprise to find these in my mailbox since I forgot about them. I'm so pumped to have new issues to read!

I made myself an oversized pouch to hold all my planner stickers and washi tape. It's been handy to carry around.

Star Wars Day: Chewbacca Cupcakes
Wednesday, 4 May 2016
Happy Star Wars Day! To celebrate this year I decided to make some Chewie cupcakes. They're not too difficult to decorate. You just need to have a couple of frosting tips and piping bags... and some muscles because creating furry Wookiee cupcakes is hard on the hands and arms.
I decided to pull out the new Star Wars cupcake liners that I picked up recently and made a batch of chocolate cupcakes.
Then came the fun part - decorating! I used the Wilton grass tip - No. 233 for the chocolate fur. This was the most time consuming part. After that, making the bandolier was fairly straight forward. Just be careful with black food colouring! It gets everywhere and leaves stains.
I had to throw in my Itty Bitty Chewbacca because he's too adorable and fits in perfectly with these yummy cupcakes!

Star Wars Day: Leia Buns
Monday, 4 May 2015
Happy Star Wars Day! To celebrate I decided to make cinnamon buns - aka Leia Buns! I've never made homemade cinnamon buns before so I was a little nervous but the recipe I followed turned out perfect!
2 cups flour
2 tablespoons sugar
4 teaspoons baking powder
3 tablespoons butter
3/4 cup milk
Filling
4 tablespoons butter
1 cup brown sugar
3 teaspoons cinnamon
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Mix together flour, sugar, and baking powder in a large bowl.
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Mix together flour, sugar, and baking powder in a large bowl.
3. Mix in softened butter and mix until well combined. Then stir in milk to form a soft dough.
4. Roll out dough on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
5. For the filling, combine softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon to form a crumbly mixture in a separate bowl.
6. Sprinkle 1/2 of the mixture over the bottom of a 9x9 pan.
7. Spread the remaining filling on the rolled out dough.
8. Roll up the rectangle of dough and with a sharp knife slice into 12 rolls.
9. Place in pan and bake 25 minutes.
I will definitely make these again and I might even change them up a bit too. I'm excited that my first homemade batch of cinnamon buns were successful!
Happy Star Wars Day again! May the 4th be with you!
