5 Fandom Friday: Fandom Resolutions for 2020

Way back in 2016, there was a blog prompt that I followed and used in my blog content - 5 Fandom Friday (you can read my past posts here). It was my my favourite blog prompt list because not only was it geeky, but it made me actually think about some of my geek interests. I had to dissect some of the shows I loved or books I read. I really enjoyed creating content with the prompts.

Well, it's back and I couldn't be more excited! When The Sartorial Geek announced it today, I clicked on the link right away to check out the prompts. And now I'm pumped to have something to help get my creative juices flowing again. I've been brainstorming about blog content lately and this news couldn't have come at a better time!

Today's prompt is Fandom Resolutions for the new year. Luckily, I've already thought about some things that I want to get to this year so this list is pretty easy.

1. Read more books.
Ever since having Emma, I have had a hard time reading. Either my hands are full watching her or I'm just too tired at night to pick up a book. Over the last month or so I've been changing that. I'm still busy with toddler things when she's awake. But during her nap time, instead of turning on Netflix, I've been picking up a book or comic. I've also been making a point of putting my phone and social media away in the evening so I have a bit more time and energy for reading. This has already proven effective and I'm excited to read more in 2020.

Books I read in 2019... it doesn't seem like much but this is a huge improvement over 2018.

2. Catch up on TV series I've already started.
When you have Netflix and Disney+ and whatever other streaming apps at your fingertips, it's so easy to try to watch EVERYTHING. But I realized I'm watching a lot of different series, but not finishing them. I want to focus on finishing series or catching up on new seasons of shows I love, like The Magicians, Suits, Parks and Recreation, The Office, etc. So the plan is to catch up on shows I've already been watching before starting brand new series.

3. Play new board games.
We love Catan. We play it monthly because it's a great game. However, I want to start mixing in some other board games. For Christmas we got the game Munchkin and I want to pick up a couple of other board games we've been looking at for a while now. I'm hoping we can mix in some other games or at least have some games that Adam and I can just play together.

4. Complete Comic Series.
There are a few comic book series that I collect and some have been sitting incomplete for years. I'm missing a trade or two in some of the series and it annoys me every time I look at the bookshelf. I want to take advantage of comic book sales at Indigo this year or make a list of my missing trades for my birthday wish list. Because of the missing trades, I haven't finished some of the story arcs or series, and I'm done with that!

I finished my Birds of Prey series last year!
5. Find podcasts to listen to.
I'm a podcast novice. I've listened to a couple but never consistently. But I spend so much of my day chasing after Emma, refereeing the cat and dog, cleaning, food prepping and cooking, and the entire time my radio is on because our main area of the house is open concept so I can hear it no matter where I'm standing. However, during this time I could be listening to casual and fun podcasts. Podcasts that might lighten my tired or stressed out mood. It would be a nice change of pace from the same songs that get played on the radio over and over. Any recommendations?

It'll be fun to look back at this list in December and see how I did with these goals. But for now, I'm going to turn off my computer and go read a book!
