My Favourite Christmas Traditions

Every December there are a few things that I just have to squeeze in because they've become Christmas traditions. Some of these things are done with my family, some just with Adam, and some things are just for me.

1. Decorate a gingerbread house
Ever since I started dating Adam, we build and decorate a gingerbread house every December. One year we waited very last minute to buy a gingerbread house kit and we couldn't find one anywhere. One of us did end up finding a gingerbread house kit and the other brought home a gingerbread train kit. Needless to say, we built and decorated both. Now we always pick up our kit as soon as they show up in stores and then buy extra candy closer to our decorating date.

2. Watch as many Christmas movies as possible
As soon as November 1st hits, I allow myself to watch whatever Christmas movie I want. This includes Elf, Love Actually, Bridget Jones's Diary, Christmas Vacation, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, and
Frosty the Snowman. Adam's not huge on Christmas movies so this is something I typically do on my own. Usually while wrapping gifts, writing out Christmas cards, or working on a sewing project.

3. Christmas baking
This isn't a surprise, right? But there are certain things I typically bake every single December - my great grandma's shortbread, magic bars, and sugar cookies. They will always be my baking go-to for Christmas.

4. Spend Christmas Eve with my parents and grandparents
I don't think there's ever been a Christmas Eve that I haven't spent sitting in my grandparents' living room, eating cheese and crackers and other treats. Every year I head there with my parents and my grandad would play Christmas albums while we all sit and chat. This year will be a bit different with my grandad gone but my Nan still wants us over which makes me incredibly happy.

5. Boxing Day shopping
I know, I know. I'm one of those people. But hear me out. Yes, I love deals on blu-rays, TV boxsets, and video games. But my favourite thing is it's just me and Adam. No one else is with us. It's our only real alone time during Christmas, besides the drive to and from Hamilton. Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and boxing day afternoon/evening is jam-packed. Shopping with him boxing day morning is our time to talk alone, hold hands, and to steal kisses. I know, it's sappy, but I look forward to that morning with him.

What are you favourite Christmas traditions?
