What I'm Loving Now

Months ago we signed up for library cards here at our local library and then we didn't use them... Which is not how that's supposed to go. So I finally spent some time on the library online catalogue a few nights ago and made a giant list of things I want to borrow. But when I got to the audio book section, I literally squealed! Everything on my goodreads to-read list is on there! So my audio book listening has increased this past week so I can get to some of the books I'm desperate to listen to.

The Goldfinch

I just finished The Goldfinch audio book a couple days ago. It was a super long one, about 24 hours, which is longer than most I listen to. It was a really good story though. I had many feels for the main character, Theo. The book sucked me in pretty quick.

From Amazon.ca:
"Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his longing for his mother, he clings to the one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

As an adult, Theo moves silkily between the drawing rooms of the rich and the dusty labyrinth of an antiques store where he works. He is alienated and in love--and at the center of a narrowing, ever more dangerous circle.

The Goldfinch is a mesmerizing, stay-up-all-night and tell-all-your-friends triumph, an old-fashioned story of loss and obsession, survival and self-invention, and the ruthless machinations of fate."

I did find that near the end of the novel, I started to lose a bit of interest. That it went on too long and focused too much on some things. But overall, it was a great story and very interesting.

Sex And The City

I normally have one or two shows that I'm marathoning at all times. Something I watch while sewing and filling cat toys. Well, when we moved into our house, none of our boxsets were unpacked. So after opening a couple of boxes at random, I found my Sex And The City boxsets so I decided to rewatch the series again. And a month later, I'm done watching all six seasons! It shows you how much time I spent in the craft room last month.

I've never watched this series that fast before and it made me realize some things about the major storylines since I was watching everything back to back. I didn't notice before how much I loved Big and Carrie together. I mean, I always wanted her to end up with him. But they are really, really cute together and watching them both grow and change into the people they need to be for their relationship is so sweet. I'm not going to lie, I shed some tears during the final episode.

Gardens

When I wasn't watching TV and listening to my audio book, I've been spending more time than I ever would have expected looking up plants and flowers for our garden. We want to do some things during the Fall to start prepping our front garden, back garden and vegetable garden. I'm really enjoying finding plants that work well in our zone (I totally just learnt about garden zones a couple weeks ago) and with the lighting our property gets.

What have you been loving lately?
