Have any of you moved far away from where you grew up? Are you still there or did you come back? It's a scary thought and it feels heartbreaking to be so far away from family. The idea of a brand new adventure is also exciting though. The thought of living near the ocean has also become apart of my daydreams now too.
This should be a very interesting summer for us. I'm trying very hard to focus on right now and not get swept up in where we're going to end up. All we can do is wait to find out if he's made it to the next step in these other provinces. So until then I'm making a point of enjoying every day.
So on to some pictures....
We've gone out to garage sales a few times now and we've been somewhat lucky. My best day so far found me these treasures:
These were still sealed!!
And of course a bit of kitty love:
Seymore keeps going into the empty recycling bag recently. I have no idea what his fascination is.
Can you see the faint, second rainbow to the left in the picture?? Yeah, there was a double rainbow that evening!
I'm making a point of finding beauty and inspiration every single day no matter where I am. It makes life that much better.

Look into the Alberta area; I'm in Calgary, and would be more than happy to help with the adjustment! They're pretty much always looking for paramedics in the camps up around Ft. McMurray (which might mean fly-in/fly-out, but it's good pay).
ReplyDeleteI haven't moved across country, but I've been away from my parents for five years, and was over seas for 9 months as well. It takes some adjustment, but out here there's also amazing crafting communities! E-mail me if you have any questions. :)

Thanks for the support and information! He's already in the middle of registering for down East. If things don't work out there we will be focusing on the prairies and we know a couple of people who have found jobs in Calgary and Edmonton so it seems promising.
DeleteI know anywhere I go I will have a great online support system and it's not like I won't see my family again. It's just going to be weird.
Thanks again! xo
You know I have!
ReplyDeleteThat's crazy there aren't enough paramedic jobs- one would think you'd always need a paramedic around!
But yes, come west! Cheap(er) gas, cheaper taxes, higher incomes. Where abouts though were you two thinking?
Just remember life isn't black and white. Just because you move away for a few years doesn't mean you can't move back to your family later.
Oh Sarah, you have definitely made the big move! The problem is, every county needs paramedics but they usually hire once a year and they only need 5-10 new paramedics at a time. Well, when like every college seems to offer the program and there's 40+ graduates at each school the competition is ridiculous!
DeleteHe's already in process of registering through Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. His teachers have talked about how it's much easier to find paramedic work down there. And I know the cost of living is definitely cheaper there, but then so are wages.
I know nothing is set in stone and we can come back. But it's weird and stressing me out. Finding a place to rent when we'll probably only visit once before moving and then getting all of our stuff to another province makes my stomach hurt. Thank god for the Internet and staying in touch that way. Thanks though!
I've lived in northern CA all my life, and always within driving distance of my hometown. When I think about it, though, it would be nice to move away just to experience it. (And I'm totally with you on the ocean part!) Good luck with your future and whatever it may bring, and I hope you keep us informed. =)
ReplyDeleteLove the kitty love pics!

Thanks for the kind words! It'll definitely be quite the experience and adventure moving 30 hours away from 'home'. I think it'll make me appreciate my family more and not take them for granted. We'll see what happens.

I believe the stressed out days are building blocks to take to success. Love the finds and rainbows.
ReplyDeleteI like your thinking... all the crap that's going on will hopefully lead us to a fun new adventure.
DeleteThose cupcake cases and decorations are brilliant! It sounds like you have quite a difficult decision to make; but it's also such an exciting opportunity to discover somewhere completely new :)
ReplyDeleteIt can be hard seeing your family less often; but it makes the time you do spend together more special. And you can also become penpals with your own siblings/parents. I love getting letters and funny cards from my Mum- much more exciting post than bills!
Good luck with deciding- if the two of you are together, anywhere can be a lovely place to live. Rather sickeningly sweet I know, but it's really true!

I feel the same way. I would think all my trips back 'home' to my family would be more special and fun. I definitely like the idea of exploring a new city and province. Hopefully things work out for the best. And I agree, as long as I have Adam nearby I'll be happy.
